A Cruz candidacy would be a “back to the future” re-run of 2012’s Romney’s failure

Ted Cruz does not own the media. He has some very good ideas and can articulate them very well, but to get his message out as a presidential candidate, he would have to pay for virtually every minute of his coverage.

This is true because the only possible way the media can get Hillary Clinton elected is to give Cruz the same treatment they gave Mitt Romney in 2012; and they will.

All the excitement about finally taking back the White House fades away with a candidate that can’t defeat “the treatment” the media always gives Republican candidates. Cruz can’t.

When Romney talked about how 47% of voters would never vote for him: the media savaged him and never gave him a chance to explain what he meant. They used it to inflame the “offended” to increase their turnout.

Recall Romney’s “Women Book,” an honest attempt to give women a fair chance to be hired. Romney was savaged over it and never given a fair chance to explain it. The media didn’t have to and didn’t want to; so they ignored his explanation. They owned Romney; he got only the coverage they deigned to give him. They will do the...

You rationalize Trump in a subjective way that assuages your conscience.

Scorched earth is not a winner’s tactic, it’s used in retreat.

He's now had plenty of time and I still haven't heard a good explanation.

“In a quote attributed to Stalin, it isn’t who votes that counts, but who counts the votes. The 800 pound gorilla the GOP, with the exception of the younger Bush in 2000, has refused to confront is dirty machine politics: Richard Daley, Sr., and Lyndon Johnson in 1960 or Rahm Emanuel and Andrew Cuomo in 2016. No Republican Presidential candidate, whether Cruz, Trump, or anyone else, will win unless the GOP is proactive in preventing ballot box stuffing.”

Wallace to a T—you’re right on the money with your comments! i just hope that whoever is our candidate will take on the vote counters, who i read recently were some foreign firm. probably one that is hoping to get a return on their investment in the Clinton Global Laundering Initiative by rigging the vote counting as was done in 2012.

I don’t quite get what it is that the evangelicals think they would “lose” with a TRUMP nomination.

Many of us couldn’t vote for Romney in the general election, because of his hand in Mass., against religious liberty, his cram down of Romney care onto the churches forcing contraception on to the Catholics, and his consent to the gay agenda in the state, BUT, I sure as heck did not stay home.

TRUMP betrays none of those issues, making it easy to vote for him. Since he is going to be the nominee, I pray with thanksgiving that I am able to vote for him.

Romney might have beaten Obama if he had not betrayed the Catholics and evangelicals on these threshold issues.

Thoughtful Evangelicals have no real gripe with Trump, on Christian doctrine. And, other than his past NY/NJ social and political connections with liberals in that region, who else runs up there, anyway? What was he suppose to do, leave his hometown, collapse his business interests?

Conservatism is the winning tactic. When we run anything else, we lose.

“Personally....and obviously I hope to be wrong...but I don’t see Cruz beating hillary. Why? Because the country is not as conservative as we are.”

“(Well Trump might have a chance).”

My thoughts too. But those who say they will not vote for anyone but Cruz are advocating scorched earth. Scorched earth is not a winner’s tactic, it’s used in retreat.

“Conservatism is the winning tactic. When we run anything else, we lose.”

Opinion that cannot be stated as absolute fact.

Plus there is the pesky little problem “conservativism” obviously HASN’T been a winning tactic. When was the last time we elected a “conservative”??

“Conservatism is the winning tactic. When we run anything else, we lose.”

If that is true why has Trump OWNING the national polls on the Republican side for months? Why isn’t “conservatism” owning the polls??

And I didn’t ask if you liked it.

Nominate lying progressive trash like Trump and you will lose.

Yes, true. But I fear that in reality we might be in retreat....

It’s hard to say.

Here’s what I know: hillary is going to be EXTREMELY difficult to beat, because she has a built in base, and because of MASSIVE vote fraud and corruption.

I know that Trump’s candidacy is conceptually like anything before, except Reagan in 80. But even more so than Reagan, he has defanged the media, which is of almost limitless value.

I know that Cruz is the greatest conservative in my lifetime.

When my state primary comes, I am proudly going to vote for Trump b/c he has already done some awesome things, and I think he “might” have a chance to slip by hillary.

But if my fellow GOP primary voters go with Cruz, I will proudly support him and his principles all the way to the finish line....but I would have far less hope that hillary could be defeated. (Which only brings us to exactly where we would be in this cycle without Trump....none of these other ass hats of Kasich, Bush, Gilmore, Linda Graham, etc. have any chance whatsoever of beating hillary....and Cruz may not either. But at least he would do the service of articulating a clear alternative).

I don’t think evangelicals are having a hard time with Trump. I think some, understandably, prefer Cruz. But I think Trump is their close second.

At least that is my personal observations....

I agree. Thanks for not being a scorched earther! I’ve seen too many like that, willing to scorch earth to their own detriment. Reminds me of this article;

Your transition is near.

Rather than facing the fact that TRUMP is smoking the field, drawing (during a lunch hour) over 15,000 supporters to an airfield is a phenomenon coming straight at you, you are instead choosing to be literally, “Left Behind”.

Your only real task is going to be deciding what to order in for delivery on primary day, and what movie to watch, since TRUMP has got this thing.

Pizza or fish. Mary Poppins or Saving Private Ryan

I've been a FReeper for 13 years and have listened to you people mewling and whining about how the GOPe betrays conservatives for the entire time only to have you spineless jellyfish demand that I do the same.

Anybody who thinks they can get me to convert to Trump progressivism can kiss my conservative ass.

I’m surprised at you, cripplecreek. After 15 years of BEGGING for someone to listen to us on immigration, we get one finally, and he’s not good enough for you?

As for lying, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE can outdo Cruz.
