The world consoles, commiserates with France in it's time of sorrow and tragedy, demonstrating its support, at least symbolically with Gallic-themed tokens of condolences in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks.
Here is just one example, one of myriad items to show the terrorists that they can kill the French but can they create such pretty commemorative items on such short notice?
I don't recall seeing a single item like this in the aftermath of 9/11.
And no, I was not a cheese-eating, smelly Froggie yesterday unlike others who seem to have been a Frenchman, even if having to hold their nose, for a day.
Our daughter was in London at that time and she said the Brits were very respectful.
Strap in goofball.
As long as this moronic thread stays bumped, you are going to get hammered.
It’s what FReepwes do.
Not true. There were demonstrations all over the world. I was very touched by the photos.
Do you, by chance, go to Mizzou?
Office towers housing US-based energy companies sent their people home early, the Calgary Police Service cordoned off those buildings and there was a strong police presence, including officers carrying what looked like sub-machineguns. I also recall a CF-18 flying overhead over the downtown and airport.
Being that (unfortunately) so many Saudis and other Arabs study petroleum and related engineering at the UofC and SAIT, the powers that be must have felt that Calgary, the energy capital of Canada, would be well known to many Arabs, and could be a target.
Funny, in some ways, it seems like yesterday but in other ways, it seems a lifetime ago. When I look at the kids I drive to and from school, it seems weird that those kids, being 13 years of age, have no idea of 9/11, other than old news items.
The question is, where were you after 9/11? Playing Patrick in SpongeBob SquarePants and living under a rock?
All kinds of people and governments around the world lent sympathy and support to us.
You recall incorrectly.
Six months after 9/11 we went on a long-planned trip to France.
On a dinner cruise down the Seine the band played the US National Anthem and America the Beautiful when they learned there was a group of Americans. We were moved.
I saw more American flags flying in Normandy than I see these days in the US.
Just remember though, the French King DID NOT do it, out of some great respect for the republican ideals of your 'founders', he did it just to pizz-off the British! Other than the last 120 years or so, France and Britain have been at war for most of the last 1,000 years! In fact, they almost went to war at the end of the 19th century over Africa. Supporting the Americans in 1776 was a way to get at, and hurt the British, revenge for having lost Canada in 1763!
As an aside, here is a humorous look at British-French relations, from a 1982 episode of 'Yes, Minister'. The discussion of the relationship begins at about 11:00.
I couldn't agree more. Unless I'm looking at an ugly mob, I take people on a one-at-a-time basis. I've seen Freepers take heat for being French. I hope we still have them.
Last Frenchman I met (a couple from Paris) was my roomie for a hospital stay. He and his wife (who wouldn't leave his side for a minute) were terrific. I wish we'd exchanged information.
Check out what Marine Le Pen is saying, AND what her dad said for years! Also, check out Generation Identitaire.
“I was traumatized by 9/11 and just donât recall any sort of support. “

We were all traumatized.
Good lord !
.
bigdaddy45, THANK YOU (!)
To lbryce, I have only one thing to say;
It's ok man.
Not everybody hates the USA. (it just seems like that oftentimes, here of late)
I recall seeing news photos of young Iranians holding candlelight vigils in Tehran. I was completely stunned by that.
I know that 9/11 holds bad memories for me. I was in NJ watching when the 2nd plane struck the WTC. There was not a damn thing any of us could do.

>> America Received No Such Outpouring of Sympathy, Show of Support Post 9/11
Total bullshit. I was frequently on business immediately before and after 9-11, and the support from our European friends was pervasive and sincere.
What is that ?
I know there was a big outpouring, but I mainly ignored it and concentrated on the fact that the terrorists had killed so many of our People in the attack - probably what happened to you too.
