"I just encountered" a fully loaded U.S.mail truck...windows wide open no driver in sight.
After ascertaining there was no driver in the back of the vehicle, I waited ten mintes while calling the P,O,...to no avail.
The driver as it turns out.. was in the local grocery store shopping.
On his return to the vehicle,...I asked him about leaving the mail accessible and unattended. He shrugged it off.
His nonchalance was a tad premature.. as is have photos of his unattended U,S,P,S, vehicle.
Local law enforcement says they don't have jurisdiction.
Well,.....at least he won't be delivering any vulnerable mail on Sunday.
,Anybody here know the extent of his liability legally speaking?
Thank you.
M.M.
Probably none. They leave mail unattended in mailboxes all over the country.
This is absolutely against regulations. Good for you for taking pictures. Notify local media.
Was the driver Amish?

Big deal. Mailmen all over the country leave their trucks to go to the bathroom and go and buy lunch. Every day, 6 days a week. What a busy body you are.
Hi, Mikey,
A mail carrier in our little community did the same thing and was fired for it. They’re never supposed to leave the mail unsecured in the vehicle.
I hope my Obamacheck wasn’t in that vehicle.
Oh puhleezzeee. He works for the guvermint.....doncha no.
If you bring this to the attention of his supervisors you will guarantee he gets a raise and a bonus ;^D /s
Sounds like you’re pretty much of a little bitch trying to get somebody in trouble.
[mail on Sunday]
Mail on Sunday? Oops!
Nothing will happen after reporting, they are unionized.
It’s 5 years in federal prison for mail tampering. Not many would be willing to risk that. I bet UPS and FedEx drivers are a lot more careful because they don’t have that hammer to bring down.
With the door(s) to the truck left open? You don't think it's irresponsible being too lazy to simply close and lock the door? Would you go shopping with a carload of valuable stuff in your car without closing and locking the door?
Should have delivered all the mail. That would have really screwed the driver.
I doubt that would mean very much to many young street thugs, some homeless, a junkie, or a deranged person.
You are starting to spin out of control.
Weight of the US Marshals keeps it safe - except from a joy rider that likes to drive about and toss mail because he hates the environment and the “Man” and our government......fantasy, sorry. Just don’t tempt me, again.
...it would be a lot smarter to simply lock the truck up when you leave it for a period of time.
