Seven posts to get a rational response.

I’d shoot em both for trespassing, and imminent danger they pose, (Deer carry ticks which carry lime disease- bears are, well, bears) and make a delicious stew out of them and invite family over for a feast-

If dinner wants to run right into my back yard and present itself like that, who am I to look the other way?

[[I’ve never heard that sound from a deer]]

[[Bear rug.

You could eat venison tenderloins while lying on a plush bear rug- , and perhaps have a little bear chili too- Can life get much better?

That was my first thought too...shouldn’t be in the yard at all. First a deer, next it is a “dear”.

Bear meat tastes good and bear grease is GREAT for waterproofing boots....everyone knows that venison tastes good under almost any conditions.

I don't need a bear, doing its hunting in my back yard because I have a wife, children, pets, guests, and Smokey needs to fight forest fires somewhere else....a bear in your yard isn't scared of you and that is a problem.

Unless its bear season and you had a tag let nature take its course. You would be breaking the law if you interfered.

I don't know where you live, but in most states, your yard is not the realm of the bear....it is a dangerous animal and is in your yard....

Whew. I thought I was the only one who had that thought. Glad to find out I’m still normal.

“I’d shoot ‘em both! Bear rug, deer jerky!”

Winner, winner

Say...isn’t that bear on the California state flag? Probably would cut him some slack with the authorities. “We now pronounce you Bear and Vittles...You may eat the bride.”

If you aim just right, you get meat for the freezer, and a bear-skin rug for the floor!

We had a mountain lion for a few years about 15 years ago, and it kept the bambi population down. Then, it disappeared.

Since then, the deer are out of control. They eat everything. Even things they didn’t eat a few years ago like ivy, manzenita and other shrubs.

Fish and game and animal control do nothing when they are called. If a deer dies on your property, you have to have it disposed at your cost.

This time of the year, the fall rut, the male deer could be more dangerous than the mountain lions.

The Alpha bucks will face you down or chase the other bucks down the street regardless if you are walking or driving. This week we and another couple had to get out of the way when the Alpha chased a younger buck up and down our street.

The Alphas get very territorial and will challenge you in your own yard or on the street.

A couple of years ago, our neighbor’s really big female Great Dane chased a doe down our little arroyo. A minute later one of the Alpha Bucks chased her back up the arroyo.

We were walking on the street and watched as the Great Dane howled and ran back. Her owner got a door on her suv and got inside and waited. When her whining dog got into the SUV, she shut the door and hit the panic button on the SUV. The blaring horn made the buck walk away.

The Great Dane doesn’t chase deer anymore.

“No one seemed to complain about my saying the deer carcass was his property, though.”

If animals have no rights, then they have no property rights. Doesn’t really need to be spelled out, does it?

“And, even though he does not technically have rights personally, he is protected by law and you can only shoot him with an appropriate tag, if he’s attacking livestock, or in self defense.”

You can only shoot him legally under those circumstances.

Morally, you can shoot him any time you judge him a present or future threat, or if you want the meat and hide, or pretty much any time there’s no good reason not to.

Since he killed that deer without breaking any laws does that make the deer his property?

You shouldn't drink and post. Unless you'd like to explain what laws apply directly to a bear.

“Morally, you can shoot him any time you judge him a present or future threat, or if you want the meat and hide, or pretty much any time there’s no good reason not to.”

Thomas Jefferson would be proud:

“If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.” - Thomas Jefferson

I don’t go out of my way to follow laws that I don’t agree with but I tend to follow game laws. In the video, this bear seemed to be in a suburban setting and therefore he’s really the cities problem and not specifically my problem. I’m not interested in paying fines, losing my hunting “privileges” or my rifle for doing Animal Control’s job for them.

Not unless the bear threatened a person or pet.

“I’m not interested in paying fines, losing my hunting “privileges” or my rifle for doing Animal Control’s job for them.”

Given the severely demented state of our government, that’s fair.
