If you receive government assistance in the state of Maine, Lewiston Mayor Robert Macdonald thinks the public has a right to know about it.
In a Thursday column for the Twin City Times, Macdonald said a bill will be submitted during Maine’s next legislative session “asking that a Web site be created containing the names, addresses, length of time on assistance and the benefits being collected by every individual on the dole.”
He added: “After all, the public has a right to know how its money is being spent.”
Proposals to target welfare recipients and reform assistance programs have become lightning rods for broader discussions on how the poor are treated and how taxpayer dollars are used.
Kansas lawmakers received both national criticism and praise this summer after approving a law limiting how people in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program can use their benefits. And at least 13 states have some sort of drug testing laws for public public assistance applicants or recipients....

List their job skills or last known employer & give businesses a bonus for hiring one of them.
My first wife was a certified gemologist and the Midwestern buyer for Zales, so I’m a little familiar.
We already reward employers with nice tax breaks for hiring them and have for quite some time.

Imagine a guerrilla attack on the card readers by inserting a piece of double duct taped card stock into the slot the day the EBT and SNAP cards get refilled, it would force all the EBT and SNAP people to not use self checkout.
One can dream....
Or course it would probably cause a zombie riot, os it is not recommended...

I once saw on FR (cannot remember who said it) someone suggest that, if the SHTF, they should raid the social service and housing offices and get a list of who has food stamps and Section 8. After that, find these people and, as I think I remember them saying, “get rid of the parasites for the good of the nation”.

Actually, that slot is for all credit cards that use smart chip technology. I just received the last smart chip card the other day, so now I use that slot for all three of my credit cards. All cards in the US will have smart chips soon, if they don't already.
I always said when the feral gummint was tapping me for $40 and 50 K a year that it was enough to support a family. I wanted to know where they lived, how they were spending MY money, and it would be appreciated if they could at least pretend to be grateful.
That’s more than any country on Earth (save us) spend on defense and is bigger than most countries budgets or even GDP. Miniscule? Seriously?
The EBT cards at the Wal-Marts up here run through the same card readers as the debit and credit cards.
Also, EBT cards are NOT all refilled on the same day. In Washington state, the day they’re refilled is based on the last 2 or 4 digits on the card.

Hey, maybe somebody was looking for their dog, a Bichon Frise, and he was just saving them the trouble of going inside.
I like it, especially for those on some of the dole after 6 months.
