First of all, "BEST" is a highly subjective term..but it serves to get the discussion started. Second, there's NO distinction as to price...or rather value, and for those 99% of us..price is always a consideration.
I can speak to two of the 50 listed.
Living now for about a decade in the Tampa area, I've eaten at Bern's man times, and it is simply superb. Worthy of comparison to many of the great NY steakhouses. Make sure to get the tour of the kitchen and wine cellar, and dessert rooms upstairs are the perfect way to end the meal (and to "start" the evening....)
Having lived most of my life in the NY metro area, I've had the good fortune to eat at many of the area's renowned steakhouses. What's curious about the article's pick for best in New Jersey, the "Old Homestead, " is that it's been a NYC landmark for about 100 years...yet it's not the "best" there. I've never eaten at their pick for NY's best.."Quality Meats," but as one who has had the good fortune to enjoy a steak at The Palm, Peter Lugar's and Smith & Wollensky...well...let's say I just don't agree with their pick.
Anyways..opine away....tell us your faves....
The best in all of Scurry county.
Park ave Stanton ca.
Gotta agree with all of the my backyard posts. No restaurant anywhere can match a home grilled steak.
Stony River Steakhouse in GA for me but I’ve never been to Bones.
Doe’s Eat Place in Greenville, Mississippi
Texas de Brazil in Orlando.
Looks like they got Texas’ best steak right....Pappas Bros. Steakhouse.
Once you’ve had a filet or their ribeye (and, I don’t even really like ribeyes)...nothing else will EVER compare.
Enjoying a meal at Pappas Bros Steakhouse is an exquisite experience....from start to finish.
J. Alexander’s is good, but it wouldn’t have been in my top five for Memphis, let alone all of Tennessee. My favorite in Tennessee is probably Folk’s Folly, but I also enjoy Jimmy Kelly’s in Nashville, Jim’s Place in Memphis, Buckleys in Memphis, Hennen’s in Chattanooga, Kayne Prime in Nashville.
And Char for Mississippi? Dunno about that either. I’d have said Doe’s Eat Place, Como Steak House over Char, or Giardina’s in Greenwood.
Anyone ever been to Ryan’s Restaurant (not that buffet place) in Winston-Salem, NC? I haven’t been there in years, but I used to love it.
It’s been years since I was back “home”, but Damon’s Steakhouse in Glendale, Kalifornia was always superb.
Sorry, I don’t view slideshows.
I’m going out on a limb.....Steakhouse ‘55 in the Disneyland hotel. Aged beef, it’s own wine cellar, and sommeliers who made very good pairings with the meat. Well worth it.

The first time you go to St Elmo’s in Indy it’s for the steak. After that it’s so you can get the WORLD FAMOUS ST. ELMO SHRIMP COCKTAIL appetizer and the steak for dessert.
Michael’s Steak House, Worthington, MN
Back when I was at Ft. Huachuca 30 years ago, there was an excellent steakhouse north and west of the fort that was well known and did its steaks over mesquite. It was a really good place but I don’t remember the name. It may be long gone by now or still there? Perhaps Sandrat knows.
A restaurant’s most difficult job is being excellent CONSISTENTLY! You need the management, kitchen and wait staff to function together and to make the customer want to come back. A bad experience loses that customer and endangers the people he tells.
My late father was salivating for a good night out at Bern’s and we gave it to him for his birthday. For a multitude of reasons, we have never been back to Bern’s and I think in part it was because of my Dad’s high expectations. So for every bad review for any restaurant, consider that they may have had a bad night or bad customer. It is their performance over time that should be the ‘tell’, and having said the above, I would consider giving Bern’s another try.
Still again, that which you prepare with your own hands and eat when you are hungry will taste all the better for your own efforts! Bon Appetite!
The best used to be The Hilltop in Saugus...but they went out of business a few years ago. If you're in it for the steak, The Hilltop was the best.
These days, the former second place steak house is now the number 1; The Stockyard in Brighton.
I’d certainly agree with Bern’s. Not only is the steak amd seafood superb, the atmosphere is great and their wine list is probably the best in the US. I believe their wine cellar holds the largest privately owned wine collection in the US.
In Orlando - Charlie’s Steak House
In Phoenix - Durant’s
In NYC - Old Homestead
My house.
