Trump Has Succeeded in Convincing Conservatives to Discard their Principles Overnight by CHARLES C. W. COOKE. September 1, 2015.
Since he jumped self-confidently into the political limelight, Donald Trump has been quite the upside-down man. Customarily, primary seasons permit each partys voters to indulge in a rational process of elimination: First, they discover which candidate most closely agrees with them on policy, and then they ask themselves whether that person is capable of representing their ideas in public. This time around, however, this process has been disastrously inverted, a solid portion of the Republican partys balloters having decided first who they want to speak on their behalf, and then, as if twere a mere afterthought, wondered what he might end up saying.
That their pick lacks any sort of conservative message at all does not seem to have mattered in the slightest. We want that guy, a host of voters have determined. Whatever he believes, he says it so well. If you have in the last few years become vexed and frustrated by the Republican bases penchant for political purity, you should perhaps be breathing a little easier. A handful of months ago many of those who now make up Trumps rank-and-file were ideological perfectionists who hated the GOPs leadership, believed to their souls that the country was becoming a socialist hell-hole, and insisted vehemently that they had sat out the 2012 election because Mitt Romney was such a terrible squish. Today, by dint of some dark and unholy magic, these wannabe purists have hitched their wagons to Donald Trump, the greatest shape-shifter of them all. ......................... .......................................

I don’t believe that the DC cartel will hesitate from killing him if it does appear he will win.
Wow, Trump-haters really hate.
I wish there was a way to know that Ted Cruz was truly off the GOPe reservation and free of big donor influence. I also fear the Supreme Court would rule him ineligible due to his birth in Canada, and not because the case law supports it or doesn’t support it, but because they could get away with it. Just look at what they’ve done recently.
As for Trump, he sure isn’t the “true conservative” I’d love to see dismantling the GOPe, but what’s the chance of finding a candidate who is free of the influence of Super Pac donors, communicates like Ronald Reagan, has an impeccable conservative record and history, but isn’t a career politician, or at least if he is one, hasn’t got “DC Fever” while he’s been in Washington?
We might be waiting a long, long time for this ideal candidate, and by then there may well not be enough freedom left to allow change, or else the immigrants and domestic chowderheads voting for the government teat may outnumber and outvote any coalition this pretend perfect candidate could possibly put together. In fact, that may be the case now.
Trump may not be the conservative Mr. Right, but he’s the anti GOPe Mr. Right Now, and that may be all that matters.
LOL, National Review lecturing us on values.
totally accurate
“I don’t care if he’s performing abortions in the Oval Office!”
Because he has SAID things that sound good on a topic or two, even though his actual plans are lacking
Celebutard worship writ large
By that criteria you should be backing Kanye West too
Trump is a liberal wimp. The media is promoting him as a conservative, even despite all the evidence he is a liberal. Sadly a lot of people but everything the MSM says. Trump would bankrupt this country and surrender to Muslim extremists.
I had to use alcohol to manage the Romney vote.
Nothing could get me to vote for any of The Cheap Labor Express candidates

We have the lowest labor participation rates in 38 years yet we continue to bring in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants a year along with 640,000 guest workers. And there are 12 to 30 million illegal aliens who are also taking jobs and depressing wages. The American worker is getting screwed along with the taxpayer.
And immigrants vote more than two to one Dem. We are importing hundreds of thousands of future Dem voters along with changing the demography of this country forever. The Dems are well on their way to becoming the permanent majority party. The Reps have lost the popular vote in five out of the last six elections. And in 2004, even Kerry almost beat Bush.
So, sounds like you admitted it.
“Change” is what you are looking for and you do not care what kind.
No, what I admit is that unless we do something different and start appealing to the majority of the voters, we are going to lose to Hillary. Immigration is the Dem’s Achilles heel.
I don’t think KW has the same power. If he did, I’d sic him on the GOPee. They need to go under the bus. Any bus.
I don’t hate Trump, I love my country. Why do you support a liberal socialist?
If we don’t stop the illegal alien inundation, it won’t be our country anymore. I won’t give a crap about any of the problems then, it’s not my country.
Magical thinking, I'm afraid. I don't think the CEO mindset will function well with co-equal branches. Hard to see anything getting done.
Good post. I am sure you hit one nail on the head that I think about but haven’t mentioned much.
I believe if Cruz took the lead, the GOPe would have no problem using Cruz’s Canadian birth to declare him not eligible. So far that has not been mentioned, but if he starts climbing to the top, they would use that to topple him.
I know it is hypocritical, but that isn’t a problem for the GOP these days.
“”With RINOs I get, well, nothing.””
BUMP.
May God guide our course.
Tatt
The Heb!ster will arguably do worse.
You got it. What do we have to lose? Going with the GOPe and the status quo will mean the end of the country. This may be the last election where the Rep has a chance to win. After that, demography is destiny.
I don’t agree. I also do not think he is a wimp.
