As always, the Food and Drug Administration has its eye on the ball and its arms around freedom in a big, stifling bear hug. The Founders no doubt intended that the federal government would have a passel of people in charge of telling successful condiment producers what they can put on their labels. For freedom.
In this case, the federal government has decided a vegan company cannot put the name Just Mayo on its clearly labeled vegan mayonnaise product because the company doesnt include egg whites in the mixture and does include some healthy stuff, like beta carotene. One would think most could discern from a vegan Just Mayo product that advertises itself as a vegan mayo product that it probably doesnt have eggsan animal productin said vegan product. But why trust the American consumer when you can crack down on a small, upstart business selling a product people like to the people who like it? And, if we are to concede that it is indeed horribly misleading to call this product mayo, does it have to be a function of the federal government to correct this?

Well, if the stuff isn’t mayonnaise, the company should not be allowed to call it mayonnaise.
It’s just like if some company were selling textured colored tofu and calling it “beef.” It is a clear misrepresentation of the product.
What it looks like 130 miliseconds before a panic attack:
So call it June-o.
Thank G-d they have fixed this problem!
This is BS! If you don’t wanna buy vegan products, don’t buy them!
But mayonnaise does have to have those three things in an emulsion to be mayonnaise.
That’s simply what it is.
There's a reason for that.
FAT is what GOD put in FOOD to make it TASTE GOOD.
No, its more like grinding up potato peels and packaging it as pork loin. You can’t do that because it is misrepresenting
It isn’t that it is vegan, specifically. It is that mayonnaise is an agreed upon, specific thing in the world of food. It has to have eggs to have mayonnaise, followed by some sort of acid and oil, held in an emulsion.
This is what the FDA should be doing.
There is no greater enemy to American health than the FDA. LOL. CoA Reductase. What could go wrong?
...the Food and Drug Administration... has decided a vegan company cannot put the name "Just Mayo" on its clearly labeled vegan mayonnaise product because the company doesn't include egg whites in the mixture...Yeah, and? Sounds like the FDA is doing its job for a change.
When are they going after the Almond Milk people?
And just a comment on vegan nuttiness in general. I have seen several sausage packages that tout that the pigs were on a vegan diet. I am eating sausage, so probably not a vegan, so why would I care?
It’s not mayonnaise. It’s fauxnaise. Like most “vegan” and vegetarian food products, it’s fake meat and fake fat.
“Mayonnaise is a defined thing and has been for a couple of centuries. It is an emulsion of egg, oil, and acid.”
I seem to recall a similar story awhile back, and that is the reason the product is labeled “Mayo” instead of “Mayonnaise.” But I guess that wasn’t good enough.
I have no problem with them calling it fake mayo but not anything suggesting real mayo.
I don't mind products being labeled as fake bacon, fake sausage, fake burger, or fake hot dogs either as long as the label clearly indicates they are expensive fakes.
Since when are egg whites used in making mayonnaise? It's the yolks, stupid.
Fat-free half and half. Disgusting. It whitens coffee with titanium. Another pet peeve is fat-free “sour cream.”
