In her recent column S.E. Cupp asks Who Are Trump’s Supporters? She seems to think that the conservative base is “too principled” – and she means that in a pejorative way – to chose the chameleon Trump:
The idea that in 2016 these voters would simply turn off their hardwired orthodoxy and support a guy who has voted for Democrats, said "the economy does better under the Democrats," refused to pledge to support the Republican nominee if it's not him, openly defended Planned Parenthood, approved of exceptions to abortion bans, supported a single-payer healthcare system, backed an assault weapons ban and advocated a one-time 14.25 percent mega-tax on the wealthy to erase the national debt is, to put it in Trumpian language, really, really stupid.
Instead, she thinks his supporters are the disaffected moderates:
So who is the Trump supporter, if not the conservative base? I'd argue it's mostly disaffected moderates who no longer strictly identify with either party. They think the political system is rigged. They think politicians are corrupt. They want a total collapse of the ruling political class.
This of course is true as far as it goes, butt ignores the fact that many in the “principled base” have grown equally disaffected and no longer identify with their party either. So this election may not be politics as usual.
So let’s imagine it comes down to this: Hilz and the Trumpster. Now who do you pick? May I suggest you choose whoever would bring the best First Lady or Laddy to the table? And be certain to keep our current standard bearer in mind as you make your selection - the ever fashion forward Lady M:

There are other options.
I think everybody is extremely alienated by two terms of the horrible, divisive and America-hating Obama.
Dems love Trump, and he should have run as a Dem because his few ideas or concepts are basically Dem party staples (social liberal, single payer health care, higher taxes, etc.).
What people in general like is that he, like many of the other populist entertainers who have flitted across the radar, says off the wall things without worrying about the impact. Of course, he’s never had to worry - he was born into a very wealthy family, got the family business, and has devoted himself to various shock-jock entertainment things since then - in between marrying Slavic babes.
I’d rather he said off the wall things and knew what he was talking about and had some conservative principles, but maybe that’s just me. And the GOP’s silence on Trump is simply a sign that they have no principles...which of course we all knew all along.
I think Melania speaks 7 languages and has a degree as an architect.
Meanwhile MO is too stupid to know she looks incredibly horrible in that shocking ugly outfit with the weird skirt.
Also she runs her own business. So it is not like she is sitting around eating bons bons with Donald’s money. She is an accomplished woman.
Now should Bubba become First “Dude”, what has he accomplished except hitting on females.

Yes I believe Melania could have married a movie star if she wanted to. She was a super model. Donald Trump once said it took him three times to get it right and they are like soulmates so I think its a happy marriage. He does not let anybody but her cut his hair. LOL!
