In 2011 Rand Paul stood on the floor of Congress and delivered a stark warning to Americans. To criticisms of sensationalism and embellishment, Paul noted that Federal laws on the books characterize those who have guns, seven days worth of food or ammunition in their homes as potential terrorists.
Know good and well that some day there could be a government in power that is shipping its citizens off for disagreements
Someone who has guns, someone who has ammunition that is weatherproofed, someone who has more than seven days of food in their house can be considered a potential terrorist.
If you are suspected by these activities do you want the government to have the ability to send you to Guantanamo Bay for indefinite detention?

I recall something of a meme that had words like 'cold dead hands' in it.
I'll have to go look up the rest. It seemed to me to be appropo to the subject at hand.

The feet of a pair of panty hose filled with dry white rice make good disiccant packs for inside ammo cans.

When I consider some of the FReepers that pop up on the preppers threads there are more that a few FReepers would agree with the government. Hey, they're probably FROM the government.

At least you didn’t have to suffer through that tragic fire. When the double -wide burned, all the smmo cooked off, and the firemen couldn’t get close enough.
Tragic, I tell you, tragic...

I looked briefly on the net and they recommend that observant Mormons keep a 3 month supply of food and another supply for the long term. So I guess they’re talking 7 years. They also recommend storing water. They have a lot of resources to help plan their food storage.

So we cannot stop our government from creating a disaster.
We cannot petition our government to prevent a disaster.
We cannot get our government to even acknowledge a real disaster.
And now the government won't even permit us to prepare for a disaster.
And they claim to be beneficial ?

I’ve really already got our bags put together. We have two cars that my husband switches back and forth on a regular basis and ut one bag in each car, plus the big suv family car, which is the only one that all three of us are ever in together that we put 2 bags in. No way we could have afforded 4 bags from that place, but I like looking through to see what items they included in their bags. I paid quite a bit less per bag and included some things that are useful that they did not. Thank you for the link.

Oh, I also meant to say i’m specifically interested in making sure the very few ‘electronic’ gadgets that are in our bags will work after an EMP or replacing with things that I know will and storage of extra ammo.

When you say yes cycle it out, I think you are referring to the dessicant? Thoughts on storing loaded mags individually in vacuum sealed bags instead of ammo cans so they take up less space and just be stored in the backpacks?

I also asked Kart, but meant to ping you too. Thoughts on storing loaded mags in vacuum sealed bags instead of an ammo box with dessicant. This is strictly for in the backpacks in our autos.

I have never in my life had only 7 days of food in the house. I might get low on milk or bread but that’s about it. I can’t imagine having to grocery shop daily or weekly, I’ve got more important things to do (read, take a walk, read the internet, take a nap).

You are most welcome — I put mine together using various checklists I found on the web.
Don’t have EMP protection, though. Gotta work on that.

What about the items like the walkietalkies? They have to be plugged in to have a charge son them so they work when you need them. Bu5, if an EMP is going to take them out because theyre connected to the power grid is there an alternative? Keep them in a metal can, like one of those surplus ammo cans mentioned as a nice waterproof way to store ammunition. If you're a belt AND suspenders sort of person, keep that can inside a metal garbage can with a metal lid tightly sealed on it, and keep the garbage can inside a 20-foot steel shipping container that's well-grounded.

Well, there goes the Amish and all of the super coupon queens with their stockpiles! Also, every family that belongs to Costco/BJs/Sams Club. Once again bureaucracy loses touch with reality. Members of the LDS/ Mormon church, with its policy of keeping a one-year family supply of food and supplies for lean times, have already been included on the lists of potential troublemakers who cannot be controlled by cutting off their food supply.
