A US property tycoon has proposed what he calls a "radical solution" to the world's crisis of refugees who have nowhere to call home: simply create a new country for them to live in.
Jason Buzi, a millionaire Israeli businessman living in San Francisco, believes that a new island could be created to house all of the world's millions of refugees.
His 'Refugee Nation' project suggests creating a brand new country "which any refugee, from anywhere in the world, can call home" - perhaps by taking over an existing country without many people or building a new island in the sea.
But his plans have been slammed by a former senior advisor to the Australian government, who said the idea is similar to treating refugees like lepers(continued)

Antarctica!
refugees want to go where there is welfare, infrastructure, food and a government to rob others to pay for their benefit
It’s been done before. We call it “Israel”.
What makes him think that the “refugees” wouldn’t just turn their new land into the same kind of disaster they were running from.
Go for it. You can have Belgium.
It’s been done before, thank you Simpson Mazzoli, it’s called California. How’s that workin’ out...
And Liberia. And Nansen Passports.
The Spratley Islands already have some reclamation.
Take Greece. They obviously haven’t a clue what they’re doing.
Is this Little St. James?
But seriously folks...
If this fellow is an Israeli, I wonder if a similar plan had occurred to him - moving the nation of Israel to some other place on the earth? I'm serious about this as an idea, and I have heard others voice it, albeit to copious ridicule.
You have the Saudi’s and other oil rich middle-east nations create a sinking fund to accumulate over 20-25 years the amount necessary to move Israel to some other place (northern, coastal Mexico?) You acquire the land, build infrastructure and move, to the extent possible, all of the productive assets that Israel has (universities, libraries, research facilities, religious sites, factories, etc.)
The cost would be in the trillions. But, as an exercise, compare it to the cost of the status quo and defending Israel against the present and coming threats.
The UN could broker the transition, and then Palestinians could turn the place into one of the most backward and unproductive places on the surface of the earth.
Let’s see...A Millionaire and his wife lives there...
No... it is ‘Gillian’s Island’ the TV show...
Sadly if just moving out of the middle east were an option for Israelis that might be wonderful, sadly the objection to Jews has nothing to do with location. It’s about a covenant made by god to Abraham, and who truly deserves it and who feels slighted by god himself!
I’m not sure. One site seemed to think it was part of the California coast.
“Palestinians could turn the place into one of the most backward and unproductive places on the surface of the earth. “ That’s exactly what it was for 1500 years, a backwards tribal hellhole full of vipers and despots.
