Four years ago, I was among tens of thousands of Wisconsinites who made their way to Madison every weekend to march against Scott Walker and his attacks on public education and on unions. We were all ages, ethnicities, political persuasions, chanting: "This is what democracy looks like!" Homemade signs sprouted amidst the snowflakes. My favorite: "He's not a Packer, he's a Steeler." (The Packers had just triumphed over Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl.)
Turns out what Scott Walker set out to steal was democracy itself.
First came the attack on collective bargaining for public sector unions, done with a particularly sleazy sleight-of-hand. Walker pointed to cutbacks workers faced in the private sector and declared that public sector workers were the "haves" who needed to be cut down a peg. Never mind that the private corporations he pointed to were rolling in profits. The problem, according to Walker, wasn't bloated corporations and overpaid executives -- it was public school teachers and home health care workers and snow plough drivers. Walker's goal went far beyond asking for more sacrifices from public sector workers; he was out to destroy the power of their unions. A hallmark of democracy is the ability of workers to come together to bargain collectively and have a voice at work.
Next he went after.....

As we shivered during the Wisconsin uprising, many of us cheered at the sign that read, "I thought it would be warmer in Egypt," referring to the uprising there demanding democratic rights. Wisconsinites became more and more aware we were dealing with an enemy of democracy. American voters would be wise to learn from our experience.

It is good that nowhere in America is a democracy. The founders gave us a representitive republic, a republican form of government if you will.
When you look at those images, remember that the poor taxpayers of Wisconsin were paying for each and every one of them. No less than twice as people took ‘sick days’ or ‘personal days’ or whatever, then the second time paying for the substitute teacher who took over the class while teacher was ‘sick’ protesting.
Scott Walker is really a threat to embezzlement - to a point - he really should have taken action against all those public employees who stole from the public to attend those rallies. I’d love to see the same stunts pulled against Trump; he knows what it is like to do payroll, and would likely be enraged about people protesting while collecting public cash PLUS having someone else paid to teach their class while they are off playing.
Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentations of their women.
Wow, HuffPost is already in full panic mode.
No word yet from them about Hillary’s lies, e-mail lawbreaking, or Benghazi incompetence that got people killed, but HuffPost already knows Walker is a “threat to democracy”.
... THIS is a good example of what Trump was talking about tonight, why people don’t - or rather cannot - trust Big Media. Too many obvious agendas.
Are we just sure those were Wisconsinites? I know, firsthand- & so do most people here on FR, that leftists, especially (but republicans, too) bus, fly, & carpool protestors all over the country whenever they have an ‘’event’’.
I learned a long time ago that nothing is what it appears to be & the only way to know the real truth is to be standing next to the actors, themselves. (Not a good place to be, but edifying just the same.)
Look at those littering paid Chicago protesters. I almost forgot about those guys.
Not everything has to be about Sideshow Trump!
"......Is there a way to summarize neatly what the document the White House just sent to Congress puts on the table? My candidate is a true delight to write: This signals the beginning of the end of American exceptionalism, however long the final act may drag out.......
.....Amid all the criticisms of the Obama-Kerry foreign policy voiced in this spaceand I cannot retract a word of itI have always wondered whether there is any such thing as an Obama Doctrine. No one in the administration has ever tried to articulate one, but I conclude now the answer is yes: There is an Obama Doctrine, but to declare its provisions would be politically perilous...."
Ah, but the inconvenient little truth is... Walker has been reelected TWICE by comfortable margins since those public sector unions were reined in.
I guess those cheese-eating, Packer-backing rubes just don’t know what’s good for them, right Ellen?
Many of them came up north from Chicago. You’re right.. that’s exactly what the left does, just as it did to stir up trouble in Ferguson and Baltimore.
She realizes this is a ringing endorsement?
The republican principle demands that the deliberate sense of the community should govern the conduct of those to whom they intrust the management of their affairs; but it does not require an unqualified complaisance to every sudden breeze of passion or to every transient impulse which the people may receive from the arts of men, who flatter their prejudices to betray their interests. ― Alexander Hamilton
Of course this is Walker’s strongest issue. I respect him hugely for his fight against the public leeches.
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. - Benjamin Franklin
Ah the sounds of another whiney little liberal turd...........
Yet, he won two elections and survived a recall. Apparently, this is what a bunch of losers look like.

Hey Ellen did you stay and clean up the trash, human waste, and damage to the State Capitol? It cost many millions that the taxpayers paid for your mess which you say is democracy. More like democrat pigs that don’t clean up their room.
At least the tea party members cleaned up after a rally.

A real wacko liberal.
Thank you for the rundown.
You pegged it.
