Why I Support Donald Trump’s Campaign – And It’s Probably Not What You Think…
The Conservative Treehouse ^ | July 13, 2015 | sundance

Posted on 07/14/2015 7:01:59 PM PDT by Art in Idaho

Begin with the end in mind – I’m not trying to convince anyone that Donald Trump is running a campaign to actually win the GOP nomination.

Factually, I’m as uncertain and perhaps more skeptical as the next person. However, given that Trump has actually done things he normally wouldn’t do if this was a mere publicity stunt (ie. stock divestitures, removal of conflicts etc.), for the sake of intellectual argument, I’m going to assume, cautiously yet optimistically, he’s in it to win it.

Argument #1 – After all, he’s been a democrat, an independent, a Republican, and well, I have consistently despised Charlie Crist.

Counter Argument – Then again, what about Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, and Orin Hatch, and Lindsey Graham, and John McCain, and John Cornyn, and Thad Cochran and, well, you get the point…. What’s the difference between supporting those consistently Republican “Republicans” only to have them advocate for liberal/progressive policies.

Are the aforementioned better because they didn’t change party registration, yet act like Democrats?

Let me first explain something few fully comprehend – and fewer still, are willing accept.

People like us rail against the “establishment” because, despite the GOP claims to the contrary, they never actually do anything to stop the liberal policy agenda. One only has to look at President Obama’s veto record (four in 6.5 years) to accept that only legislation Obama agrees with is reaching his desk.

We gave the GOP the House (2010, 2012, 2014) and the Senate (2014) and yet we never have received a single benefit to the election victories We The People provided.

Why is that?

I like your choices. Isn't this fun! The reality is a Free Republic chosen Cabinet would do an absolutely fantastic job. If only we could. .

The first job would be to treat each department as a business and trim the fat, descriptive analysis, etc, . . big time revamp of them all. . maybe disband some like Energy and Education. . return most things to the states. . get Article V going. .

Our initial plan was to present the idea to each candidate and ask them to run as a team.
Charles Krauthauer mentioned last week that the candidates were very strong and would make a great cabinet.
So we’re not far off

Our concern is Agriculture Secretary strong enough to take on Monsanto
And Secretary of State who is knowledgable in both East Middle East and West

We knew very well how Barack Obama would govern that was perfectly apparent to anyone willing to invest a couple of hours of research into the man's biography and associations: he would govern as a radical leftist. His values were clear, he was a certified and salaried Saul Alinsky facilitator, so dedicated to the cause was he. Barack Obama's values were knowable; his values were repugnant to the Constitution, to democracy, to capitalism.

It was easy to know how Barack Obama would govern because he was a committed ideologue. In my view his radical roots were underreported by the media who simply wanted to put the first black man in the Oval Office. But we could make out who Barack Obama was with surprisingly little research.

What kind of a man is Donald Trump? What is his ideology? What values does he hold dear besides the advancement of Donald Trump and his ego? These questions are unanswerable but the smart money says he will govern lurching from issue to issue coming down on an issue as it strikes his immediate fancy. In short, he will govern without reference to a coherent philosophy. It will be an ad hoc affair and the end result will be confusion or even chaos.

In our history we have had politicians who have fooled us. In fact we had two in a row, Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon. But we have also been blessed with men who have held consistent to an enlightened view their entire lives such as Washington, Lincoln, Coolidge and Reagan after his conversion to conservatism. Each man upon leaving office could say, what you see is what you got.

There is a deplorable tendency in the electorate to whore after the next Messiah as though the answer to our problems are held on the hands of one man. Yes, it unquestionably requires a charismatic individual, either on the left or on the right, to seize the historical moment and bring the country along to his point of view. But after we establish to our satisfaction that the candidate is of good character (after all if a man has had three wives it is relevant when his finger will be but inches away from the red button) we must ask, what is his ideology, is he consistent in an ideology that is wholesome? Barack Obama was perfectly consistent in his ideology which is bringing the country to ruin. Yet at the time of his election, thanks partly to the media and partly to the gullibility of a yearning electorate, he was nearly universally regarded as the next coming. He has not governed as the Messiah he has rather governed as a Bolshevik straining at a rubber leash.

Thus are the wages of exalting personality over policy.

The problem with both Energy and Educatiin is the job description. Both a extremely important and complex areas. Yes more control needs to be given to the States BUT their still needs to be a figment of continuity/unity between the states. Particularly when issues cross state lines.

If you look what Jindal did in LA with schools you see how he has out maneuvered the federal malarkey. He seems to have a good handle on what’s needed.

Thank you for your excellent summary. I think it is dead on correct. Always appreciate your thoughtful analysis.

I have also posted long and hard that the way to gain the independence and the Reagan Democrats is not by retreating from conservative principles but by inspiring the country with conservative principles.

Education is the key.

Trump reminds me of the little I know about Teddy Roosevelt who ended up gravitating towards the left. Teddy and Donald both seem like the types who would govern to massage their egos first, to 'look good' and maybe not do what's best for the country, as you say 'an ad hoc affair and the end result will be confusion or even chaos.'

What a condition our country is in that maybe that's better than having a committed Marxist at the helm, again.

Well, so far Trump has been “lurching” onto all of the right topics, hasn’t he, and has given his viewpoints that have so far thrilled most conservatives. So he’s done something right. As to knowing what’s really going on in any politician’s mind and heart, you’ll never really know. We make calculated guesses and hope we are right. If you are looking for perfection, you’ll be disappointed with many a politician. That’s why a seasoned and highly successful businessman looks really good to me now, especially his talent for making good deals, unlike Obama’s horrifying Iran deal.

I just hope as President The Donald can undo a lot of what Obama has done, and fast. Trump’s a doer. He’ll jump into his new job with both feet. And will surround himself with others that are doers, just like himself.

Pledging his fortune and his sacred honor

You have to hand it to him for that. He could stay out of the fray and have a happy fulfilling life. Says something about him, no matter what his deeper motivations.

Reminded me of the pic I took at the Jefferson Memorial:

I believe that is where he is coming from. I would love to do commercials for his campaign. Cruz like my founding ancestors dint have the fortune to put on the line. But he too has his honor on the line. He could have done the PC thing like some of the others but instead he stood by Trump and truth

Well, so far Trump has been “lurching” onto all of the right topics, hasn’t he, and has given his viewpoints that have so far thrilled most conservatives.

THE MASSIVE FLIP FLOPPERY OF DONALD TRUMP, EXPLAINED IN 113 SECONDS:

Perhaps no presidential candidate has the self-confidence he does, even in the face of some glaring flip-flops on his political positions. Where lesser candidates would dodge questions about why they've changed their mind or give a focus-group-tested line about how they evolved, Trump doesn't admit to ever having a different opinion.

He loved Hillary Clinton; now he thinks she's the worst. He was very much in favor of abortion rights before he opposed them. And he might be running as a Republican today, but he was once a registered Democrat who called for legalizing drugs, a massive one-time 14.25 percent tax on the wealthy and staying out of wars that didn't present a "direct threat" to the U.S. In many ways, he's been to the left of Clinton and even Bernie Sanders on some issues.

But in Trump's world, there is no truth but now. Here are some of his most glaring flips (or convenient evolutions):

Abortion

Then: On "Meet The Press" in 1999, Trump said he was "very pro-choice." "I hate the concept of abortion," he said. "I hate it. I hate everything it stands for. ... but I just believe in choice."

Now: In an interview with Bloomberg Politics in January, Trump said, "I'm pro-life and I have been pro-life." He said he believed there should be exceptions in cases of rape, incest or the life of the mother.

Guns

Then: In Trump's 200 book "The America We Deserve," he wrote that he "generally" opposed gun control but supported an assault weapons ban and a longer waiting period to purchase a firearm.

Now: At the 2015 NRA-ILA Leadership Forum, Trump said if he became president, "the 2nd Amendment will be totally protected." He told the Web site Ammoland he does "not support expanding background checks" and said current background checks "don't work."

Healthcare

Then: In an interview with Larry King in 1999, Trump said he was "very liberal when it comes to health care" and that he believes in "universal healthcare." Now: During his announcement, he called Obamacare "a disaster called the big lie" and said the deductibles were so high they were "virtually useless."

Hillary Clinton

Then: Either Trump or his son donated to Clinton in 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007, he invited her to his 2005 wedding in Florida, where she sat front row, and he's donated at least $100,000 to the Clinton Foundation. He also said in an appearance on the Howard Stern show in the mid-2000s that she was a fantastic senator. Now: On NBC on Wednesday, he called Clinton "the worst secretary of state in the history of our nation" and said she would be "a terrible president."

Party affiliation

Then: Trump changed his party from Republican to Independent Party in 1999, and switched again to Democrat in 2001.

Now: Has been a registered Republican since 2009.

There are also some flips which haven't necessarily been from left to right.

Jeb Bush

Then: In Trump's 2000 book "The America We Deserve," he called Bush "a good man," "bright, tough and principled," and "exactly the kind of political leader this country needs now and will very much need in the future."

Now: On Fox News's "On The Record" this week, he called Bush "pathetic" for his support of Common Core, said his immigration views were "baby stuff."

1. Don't know who you think you are to make such demands.

2. It's my OPINION. Suck it up cupcake. People have different opinions than you do. If you can't handle that, go find another political forum that'll be your personal echo-chamber.

3. Go fly a kite.
