I am white. I was born and raised in South Carolina, a state to which my grandmothers family came in the 1600s. They owned slaves. Part of her family were Pinckneys, which means that someone in my family may have owned someone in the family of the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, who was killed in the terrorist attack on Charlestons Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church Wednesday night. Those same people who owned his ancestors were likely involved in, or at least aware of, the suppression first of the Stono rebellion in 1739 which resulted in mass executions and the placement of the severed heads of rebels on stakes on the road outside of Charleston and in the Negro Acts, a tightening of slave laws, including the outlawing of drums. And they were probably also involved later, in 1822, in suppressing the Denmark Vesey rebellion, which was centered around Emanuel. When that revolt failed, the church was burned and Vesey was executed probably to the relief of my land-holding ancestors.
There were also four white people arrested and executed for their role in Veseys plot. I cant help but think that, had there been more of them, the tragic course of South Carolinas history may have been different, and perhaps we would not have bred terrorists such as Dylann Roof, the alleged shooter.

Will it be chubby, black female college professors who step in to save the day?
How about the Democrat Party? Will they save the traditions which Western Culture arose from, from that assembly of traditions' seemingly, ever so increasingly near & impending demise?
They would have to repudiate the ways in which they stand upon and speak about their own base values in order to do so.
No, none of those will save anyone.
They can't even save themselves, but are too overly educated programmed/brainwashed that their own brand of humanism (their unrecognized as religious belief, religion) will deliver us all to vague, self-actuated Nirvanas to realize --- that they are wrong, and are biting the hands of the body that whelped themselves in the first place.
Instead they will continue to attempt to remove faith in [Judeo-Christian] God by any means possible, and prohibit prayer to that God most of all if they may, or else weaken it to irrelevance & mere emotion wherever they cannot have it prohibited by power of State, relentlessly eating away like termites eating the framing substance of the housing built to have a place to stay out of the weather.
Consider such as this, while putting the humanist (it's for the children) and the feminist (it's all for ME --- not you!) in place of the foolish woman, while the nation at large is as the unfortunate husband of that conniver;
So many levels of society which have to look at themseves. Whites of course, But Blacks also. We know all the issues that whites are supposed to address. What we do not often hear is what should be done about Black murders, Black preaching of hate, Black sub cultural language, dress and attitudes which distances them from all aspects of mainstream culture. We do not hear solutions to single Black mothers. For all the talk about that mom who whacked her kid for participating in the Ferguson riots it was not because looting was wrong, but because, in her own words, she did not want him to end up like Freddy Gray.
It is not just Whites.
With a name like Baynard, I suspect he got his ass beat on a weekly basis.
And if they could just get rid of the Confederate flag everything would be OK just like that. :-)
“doctrines of collective responsibility and guilt “
No, progressives base their policies in feudal practice.
“Corruption of blood” is the feudal practice this progressive is basing his views upon.
“Corruption of blood” was a punishment by the King upon the relatives and descendants of an offender.
Of course not.
The bigger issue is the sad fact that so many, like the article's author, feel responsible for what happened in Charleston.
You see, they, meaning the liberals, have thought that the blacks would always be safe on the "plantations" they put them on.
When something bad happens, they feel responsible, although they could really care less.
Therefore all whites should also feel as guilty and responsible as he, (the liberal), does.
Insane logic, I know.
You noticed that too. This has got to stop.
He’s all like sophisticated and stuff now!
John Waters was brought up in well-to-do society in Baltimore but knows there are plenty of “hillbillies” there.
LOL.....Probably.
Freedom. There is no black culture in world history, that has ever immaculated, that ideal into it’s culture. Not One, in all of recorded history. Not even, to this day.
Six Flags of Texas was a theme park that recognized the 6 national flags that flew over Texas (Mexico, Spain, France, Republic of Texas, Confederate States of America, and US).
I wouldn’t want to see the statehouse flying all 6 flags (although Texas is permitted to fly the state flag at the same height as the US flag) but I have to wonder where the social justice ragers are in asking that the Mexican flag no longer be flown, stickered, or worn in Texas. It’s offensive to those who won the battles and to those who lived in Texas before any other nation claimed the territory.
James Brown was into freedom. He was grateful that he lived in America where he had opportunity to rise and to become very wealthy. He wrote a number of songs expressing this. He encouraged kids to stay in school and to try to excel in life.
He got pushed around by the Marxist Left black agitators who thought he was a “sell out”. James wrote the anthem “Say it loud, I’m black and I’m proud” to appease them. He also opened some businesses that gave out ‘Brown stamps’ instead of green stamps to keep some money in the black communities (which in itself was a form of segregation or at least separatism).
He went to Africa in the 1970s for that Ali fight and thought that things were much better off in America. He was glad that he was born in America (it doesn’t justify the cost or history of what happened to bring about those circumstances, just his own acknowledgement that it gave him opportunities he wouldn’t have had in Africa).
Very well said, Our man in washington.
I noticed long ago there is nothing better than a Conservative Yankee and also there is nothing worse than a Liberal Southerner.
For instance Morris Dees or Jimmy Carter.
If whites were “racist” and “white supremacist” in any significant quantity, there wouldn’t BE any blacks.
But we’re not.
Collective guilt must be some sort of sexual fetish for liberals.
If he wants to share Dylan Roof’s guilt, fine by me. He can share the needle.
He lives in Baltimore of all places.
Baltimore.
So wear your own hair shirt, but leave me out of this.
