Okay, let’s do this. If Jenner can be a woman, why can’t Dolezal be black?

Yes, I know that we already hit this story yesterday. Ed covered it here, while AP weighed in here and here as well. But as I watched the media coverage of the Rachel Dolezal news roll out yesterday I just couldn’t let this particular sleeping dog lie. (And I apologize in advance if this is a bit long but there’s a lot of material to cover. Please bear with me.) The initial questions about what Dolezal is alleged to have done seems fairly cut and dry at first glance, but are they really?

Sure, barring some proof that her parents turn out to be lying or the early life photos are somehow faked, it seems fairly obvious that the woman is about as white as white could be. If you looked in an encyclopedia next to the phrase “white woman” you would probably find her picture. And yes, she seems to have woven an extensive web of lies about who her father is, claimed that her adopted brother was her son and a host of other things which clearly seem to be intentionally deceptive. To what purpose? Was it to advance her career in the civil rights movement? I suppose so, though the NAACP is insisting that she could have gotten that job anyway and that they welcome people of all races.

But here’s my main beef with this coverage. As soon as I read about Dolezal it crossed my mind that there was another, underlying story waiting to be told....

1. Only someone with a key could put anything into her mailbox. 2. The letters had NO stamps on them. 3. She has repeatedly lied about who her parents are, who her step siblings are ( claiming one or more are her son ), where she was born, where she lived ( in a teepee ), how she got food as a child ( using a bow & arrow ), and being to Africa. 4. She got a full scholarship for her Masters in ART at Howard, an ALL BLACK college, through subtle manipulation and a suggestive application. 5. She holds a non-elective city job and LIED about her race, on that application, which is ILLEGAL ! 6. She has "taught" classes about her having to "deal" with her nappy "BLACK HAIR" which is delusional beyond word ! And you still believe that this is all okay, do you ?

I’ve known white people who have presented themselves as blacks for the purpose of getting internships or scholarships reserved for blacks, and afterwards went on to live their merry white lives. This was not the case for Rachel, she’s spent every minute of her life walking the difficult road of a black woman.

Please explain what part of her life lacks the experience of being a woman? The actor The Rock is black, yet almost knows it. So how can he really say he’s black if it doesn’t effect how he lives?

Yes, she had white parents, but so did Baraq Obama and Gary Coleman.

Have have NO idea who The Rock is, but I went to boarding school with wealthy black kids and they didn't act anything at all like black thugs from "da hood" and that certainly didn't, in any way, make them white/not black.

My point was that I didn’t think it was ok for my friends to pretend to be black because they had no intention of being black. This was not the case of Rachel. She loved blacks and their culture so much she decided to become one.
She didn’t get a scholarship just because she was black. She got it because of her incredible African artwork. Think you can fake an interest like that?

Perhaps her parents are white, but I bet you didn’t know her four younger siblings are adopted blacks! That makes 4/7 of her family black! (Including her 5/7). As big sister, she’s spent a lifetime dealing with nappy hair.

Please let me know who in your opinion would be more worthy of getting her black scholarship? Some random black dude that probably doesn’t give a rat’s ass about African artwork or culture?

American blacks know very little about Africa, African art work,and and she had NO RIGHT to take the place of some much more deserving black candidate, at Howard !

Since I was very interested in some of the black works of art at the Met, when I was a child and some members of my family are from the original settlers and still live in South Africa, I am willing to bet that I know far more about this topic than she does; you too, for that matter. That doesn't make me black though !

She was NOT born with what is called "black hair" ( and neither are some actual blacks! ), so she did NOT spend her entire life "having to deal with black hair" !
