our average left-winger agrees with this stuff and thinks Sanders is a genius
Just as an exercise in curiosity, Im going to try to think like a socialist. And since I really have no earthly idea how socialists come up with the ideas they embrace, Im going to let Bernie Sanders get me rolling. Tell me, Bernie, your thoughts on economic growth:
The whole size of the economy and the GDP doesnt matter if people continue to work longer hours for low wages and you have 45 million people living in poverty. You cant just continue growth for the sake of growth in a world in which we are struggling with climate change and all kinds of environmental problems. All right? You dont necessarily need a choice of 23 underarm spray deodorants or of 18 different pairs of sneakers when children are hungry in this country. I dont think the media appreciates the kind of stress that ordinary Americans are working on. People scared to death about what happens tomorrow.
So let me see if I have this straight: Children are hungry, and hungry people need food, but there isnt enough food for them because, instead of producing food, 23 different companies are making spray deodorant, and 18 different companies are making sneakers. Why, they could be producing food!

***Why, they could be producing food!***
Food production requires acreage. Most acreage producing food already has a market.
Besides, the Bernie Sanders “government” mandated deodorant and sneakers may not be what I want. Any reason HIS initials are B.S.?
DISMANTLE BIG GOVERNMENT. All legislatures could be part-time (1/10th pay) or volunteer with no benefits, no medical, no retirement, volunteer staff, etc., etc.
More money to feed your kids after we get rid of these blood-sucking parasites.
Ever read P.J . O’Rourke’s “Fiddling While Africa Starves”?
FUBS!
The obvious solution is a planned economy and a few five year plans. That has worked so well in the past.
The people’s deoderant factory coming soon.
>>Famine is caused by corruption, when the logistics and supply chain is disrupted.
Not so ironically, that is usually caused by some form of collectivism.
Democratic Socialists don’t talk that way .... but Communists do!
Abundance is not product-specific, sh2thead.
The Soviets had this economic problem solved with total government control of the economy. Armies of bureaucrats labored to produce 5 year economic plans that determined how many kinds of deodorant, pairs of sneakers, loaves of bread, rolls of toilet paper and every other consumer good in the economy would be produced in the next five years. The result was long lines for scarce consumer goods, empty shelves in stores and I doubt any end to childhood hunger.
So deodorants cause children to go hungry?
He’d be dissing Baskin Robbins for all their different flavors.
In SOCIALIST Venezuela, the people would be happy to buy just one brand of toilet paper.
Seventeen is the correct number.
Yes. It was called the Yugo.
I read. A lot.
Food is generally a renewable, solar energy based enterprise.
