Gun Owners of America, the radical gun group that bills itself as far to the right of the NRA, announced in an email to its members yesterday that it will be holding a series of “tele-town hall meetings” with Republican presidential candidates in order to vet the candidates on their gun-law orthodoxy. The “first of several” calls, to be held next week, will feature Sen. Ted Cruz, a favorite of GOA’s executive director Larry Pratt.
In response, People For the American Way President Michael Keegan released the following statement:
“Pandering to Larry Pratt – who believes President Obama is trying to ‘commandeer the military’ and agrees that Obama is ‘definitely capable of something as evil’ as leading black Americans to massacre white Americans – is beyond the pale, even for Ted Cruz.
“No one who aspires to be president of the United States should be willing to dignify the violent, bigoted record of someone like Larry Pratt. Cruz should pull out of this event immediately, and we’ll be paying close attention to see if other GOP candidates join these tele-town halls to appeal to the most extreme elements of their party’s base.”

History with radical militia movement Was forced to step down from a position on Pat Buchanan’s 1996 presidential campaign when it came to light that he had spoken at a militia event featuring a number of neo-Nazi and anti-Semitic activists. Was influential in the formation of the militia movement in the 1990s. Told a far-right group shortly after the Oklahoma City bombing that whoever had taken on the government “beast” in Oklahoma knew that the couldn’t “rely on the Lord to take vengeance.”
Assassination threats Said that being afraid of assassination was “a healthy fear” for members of Congress to have, because that’s what makes them “behave.” Boasted that Democratic proponents of stricter gun laws are “afraid of getting shot and they ought to be!” Said that he hoped President Obama would learn from the example of Charles I, who was executed for treason in 1649.
Anti-Obama conspiracy theories Claimed that President Obama is building up a private security force within the Department of Homeland Security to use for his own purposes “if he can’t actually commandeer the military.” Warned that the president will enlist undocumented immigrants into a private “Praetorian guard.” Promotes the fringe birther theory that holds that President Obama’s “real father” was labor activist Frank Marshall Davis. Agreed with a far-right radio host that President Obama “would definitely be capable of something as evil” as raising what the radio host called “a black force” to massacre white Americans. Later denied that their conversation had anything to do with race, but said that such a racial massacre was “something that the president wouldn’t mind seeing.”
Race-baiting Mused that “the African from Africa” is generally “a very happy person” and could therefore “approach some of their fellow blacks” in America to teach them to exhibit less “surliness.” Claimed that Baltimore wouldn’t have any problems if armed citizens had simply shot rioters dead.

“I must admit, that the progressives/communists at “People for the American Way” are masters at dissimilation and re-direction. Attempting to separate the candidate from potential supporters while simultaneously sullying his reputation as well as Gun Owners of America. These guys are pros.

Liberals bashed him for talking to Jewish gays - which makes darn near anyone else “radical right”.
If this group, founded by the uber-rich 1%’er, owner of 21 cars and a 21-car garage in his super big, super expensive mcmansion Norman Lear had praised Sen. Cruz, I’d be worried.
Does Lear pay taxes, or is he a tax cheat? Answer up, Lear.

They are the ideological little brother of the ADL & SPLC on the most dishonorable Leftist fringe in America. I say dishonorable, because they never debate the issues with articulate Conservatives like Larry Pratt & Ted Cruz, but rely solely on smear tactics.
While each of the three hate organizations pretend to be fighting Nazis--and pretending that the Leftwing German Socialists were somehow on the Right--among other totalitarian concepts; their methodology, and choice of targets, actually demonstrate that they are the clossest thing to the Nazis in tactical onslaughts against freedom of conscience, that we have seen in the West since Goebbels committed suicide. To their perspective, the principles so well enunciated by Thomas Jefferson, were antagonistic to the "American Way."
