The Lie that George W. Bush/U.S. Created ISIS

Who created ISIS? Was it Jeb Bush's brother? (Shout out to Rob Lowe- Thank you!).

Can it be traced back to CIA overthrow in 1953 of Mossadeq?

Jimmy Carter's lack of leadership support for the Shah in 1979?

Is it due to our support of the Saudi royals and other secular Muslim dictators? Or our abandonment of them in wake of the Arab Spring?

Did it all start with Reagan and the CIA (war in Afghanistan and CIA support for the Mujahadeen against the Soviets)? Was OBL a CIA creation?

Did the U.S. create Saddam? After all, there's that famous photo of Rumsfeld shaking hands with the Butcher of Baghdad.

Can ISIS origin be traced back to Bush Sr. and the First Gulf War?

Is the U.S. responsible for giving chemical weapons/material to Saddam?

Was 9/11 an inside job? The Jews? What of Building 7?

Did Bush Jr. want to invade Iraq from day one in office? Was he hell-bent to do so no matter what? Did he "fix" the intelligence? Was it all about wmd? Did he attack the wrong country? Was there no relationship between Saddam and al Qaeda?

Would ISIS not exist if it weren't for all of these events that have transpired before them (regardless of whether the perception itself is distorted and false)? Have we created more terrorists, because of OIF? Did we play into OBL's hands by being drawn into engagement on the GWoT?

Can the birth of ISIS be directly traced to the (factual) invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the direct decisions made under Bush #43? Or how about Cheney and DeBa'athification?

Did John McCain meet and shake hands with ISIS on Syria? What about that photo? And subsequently, did we fund/create ISIS?

Who is responsible for ISIS?

Last week, Jeb Bush's feet were held to the fire after Megyn Kelly asked him a question:

Megyn Kelly: Knowing what we know now, would you have authorized the invasion?

Regardless of how Jeb Bush heard or misheard the question, it's baffling that he did not rehearse a ready-made, concise response for either "Knowing what we know now..." or "If you were president in 2001-2004, would you have invaded Iraq, given the same information your brother looked at?"

The intelligent answer would be, "I don't know". Then a short explanation of why (no one can accurately predict with honestly and in the absence of 20/20 hindsight knowledge how they would have responded to the reality of being president in wake of 9/11). The political answer is the one that's easy to offer up- the construct of which is being followed by the other GOP presidential candidates for 2016. Essentially, their answers are to dodge the political bullet and give the safe answer, which is to concede that if they knew then what they know now, they would not have authorized the war in Iraq.

I kept hearing this curious ‘knowing what we know now’ phrase.

My response would have been “What Do you think you know NOW?”

We know there was, because Rush was playing the audio of Clinton’s statement .. but there’s nothing about him in this article.

Should I be surprised ..?????????????????

Seeing as how so many ISIS commanders are Saddam’s former lieutenants and feeds on Sunni resentment, I’d vote for the much praised total withdrawal of American troops by Obama combined with the Shia/Iranian dominated Iraqi government.

Radical Islam has always been around since Muhammad established his warrior religion. So that’s the base cause with the incidents on this list are just markers along the way or perceived markers anyhow.

If someone in the current administration at least had a cabbage for a brain, there would be no isis.

Obama and his clown show are responsible for isis.

Who created ISIS?

Bob I’ll take Jimmy Carter and the Shah of Iran for a thousand dollars.

The Islamic Fundamentalist movement got a big boost from the fall of the Shah.

The Shah was making big strides in secularizing Iran until Carter forced him in to permitting the Ayatollah to return.

Iran was the first domino to fall.

I hope they're not trying to pass this off as a genuine photo. That sign is 'shopped ... not hand written.

"Did I miss something, or was there NO mention of Bill Clinton’s involvement in wanting to go after Saddam ..??"

There is a great deal of amnesia on that point, even among conservatives. The facts are that - even late in his presidency - Clinton repeatedly warned about the danger posed by Saddam and his WMDs, and that the decade-long sanctions program against Iraq was claimed to have taken as many as 400,000 Iraqi lives, mostly children, causing increasing international calls to have the sanctions lifted.

Yet there was considerable evidence that most of those Iraqi deaths were deliberately caused by Saddam precisely with the goal of having the sanctions lifted. THIS was the situation that Bush inherited, closely followed by 9/11.

Bush was faced with an Iraqi regime that was so evil it sacrificed hundreds of thousands of its own citizens to defy internationally-approved economic sanctions, and which was about to ramp-up its WMD programs ASAP when the sanctions were lifted.

However, the Sunni resentment is due to the US handing over Iraq to the Shi’ites after our victory. We kicked out the Sunni officials without eliminating them, so they were always going to rise up and take their country back. O’s feckless refusal to engage made it easier for them and made it happen earlier,

Bush Jr. should have listened to his father Bush Sr. who called his son at the White House before the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. Bush Sr. didn’t favor taking out Saddam in the process. Saddam was the one man who could keep the tribes in check. The younger Bush hung up on his father.

ISIS belongs to Islam. The whole point and goal of Islam is to destroy freedom and liberty and have the world controlled by muslims. They would be doing this is George Bush had never been born..

Very much so. That Shia government brought it on sooner rather than later.

ISIS created themselves in Syria after fleeing Iraq. Then they bided their time until the moment was right to return to Iraq and begin retaking territory.

No doubt who gave them that moment: Barack Obama and his stupid policy of withdrawing all troops by the end of 2011 while failing to negotiate, or require that a sensible sized residual US force remain in Iraq.

And further, Obama failed to attack the ISIS Toyota convoys while they were moving in the open desert from Syria into Iraq, before they’d taken any territory. He screwed around for months before taking any action at all and then only limited air strikes.

After the Islamists who have committed the atrocities against minorities in Iraq, Obama is the person most responsible for all the murdered and displaced Iraqis. What happened was predicted.

Actually, the origins of ISIS (under another name) go back to about 1999, before Bush was even president, so it was NOT formed out of the remnants of the Iraqi army. And I am not saying that "Clinton founded ISIS."

The media were so thrilled by the girl challenging a Republican presidential contender that they didn't bother to fact-check her absurd claims, and so many conservatives hate Jeb that they also gave her a pass.

I think that at the least we have learned that muslims won't embrace democracy when they are freed from opressive dictators as GWB thought they would.
