Dr. Danielle N. Lee, who writes for the Scientific American blog network and calls herself "the Urban Scientist," believes that the push to visit Mars and eventually inhabit it is "white colonialism."
Dr. Lee expressed her concerns in both the Scientific American blog and on Twitter. Writing in Scientific American in an article titled, "When discussing Humanitys next move to space, the language we use matters," Dr. Lee discusses Elon Musk's push to inhabit Mars some day.
She is very critical of Musk, saying that his language is not inclusive enough to either women and minorities. "Diversity, Inclusion, Access and Ethics should be a critical part of these conversations about space science, discovery, exploration, and yes eventual travel and emigration," she writes. "And when we look around and see a homogenous [sic] group of individuals discussing these issues issues that command insane budgets, we should pause."
On Twitter, she was much more forward, writing:
Keep in mind, Musk never said that space colonization was for only whites. In fact, he never mentioned race once. The only reference to people by Musk in Dr. Lee's article was when Musk said that "humans" must get excited to explore space.
No matter, Dr. Lee has more to say about his ideas:

Nevermind.
More like “Yugo Girl”
I hear that Mars Needs Women....
Beyond parody.
I see the opposite. I would suggest that we send every last liberal/progressive/communist there as well as all muslims , Gays and all criminals. After all liberals believe in equal rights for all so they can all start out together and sort it out and leave us alone!
Why are thier no POC allowed to investigate Big Foot?
White people!
My only experience with Scientific American is back in 9th grade when I was required to do monthly reports on an article from the teacher’s list. Long time ago.
That was funny.
“Got laid that very night.”
Thanks.
No you don’t understand. We want to send YOU there. Then you can do all the robbing and looting you could ever want on Martian soil.
Only people who can read cursive will be allowed to colonize Mars.
"If I'm a venture capitalist, I would ask you a series of questions," Tyson said. "I would say:
Is it dangerous? Well, yes.
Will people die? Probably.
How much will it cost? I don't know, but a lot.
What's my return on investment? Nothing.
Thats a quick conversation.
But I'm not going to stop them," Tyson said. "Somebody's gotta go and do this first you know."
ahaahaha something like LeCar....gurl...
no that wont work the leCar was a tiny little auto
I would send them, instead, to Venus - The Planet of Love.
Besides OJs already been there. Maybe.
OMG, thank you for this! I audibly chuckled at this. These people are serious, and that lends even more to the hilarity of this.
> I guess we are overlooking Africas contribution to the sciences and space travel, just like the Muzzies. STFU hose bag.
Well they probably invented spears and they did learn to be eco-friendly by recycling cow dung to build their homes...: )
“Diversity, Inclusion, Access and Ethics should be a critical part of these conversations about space “
That sounds like Obama’s first assignment to NASA to reach out and teach Muslims about their tremendous contributions to math and science over the centuries.
