So this morning, while rinsing out the carafe of my Black & Decker coffee maker, I accidentally banged it against the side of the sink, cracking it. Frustrating, but no big deal. Go to WalMart.com..find out I can buy a replacement for $9.87. But then I noticed that I can buy a whole new machine..INCLUDING carafe..for $17.88. Yup..digital, programmable, auto-brew..with a two hour automatic shut-off. Which got me thinking....
And yes, she’s a barista.
It’s sort of a French Press meets a K Cup maker without electricity. You heat the water in the microwave with the blue section (or pour hot water in from a tea kettle or warmer) and use the blue section as a press past the K Cup, making yourself one cup of coffee.
its 54 yrs old and makes cookies too
50 years ago...I’m off to college...I take my mom’s Michael C. Fina silver electric percolator...which she NEVER used...two months later, my “genius” roomie is starving in the middle of the night..they’d confiscated the hot plates in the dorm after someone had started a small fire...so be decides to heat up a can of Chef-Boy R Dee ravioli in the pot...that was all she wrote..
My device is easier to use and easier to clean and does the job as well. I’ve used the French press in the past.
Got mine for $4 at Goodwill.
We’re not really coffee drinkers, so for the occasional cup it works well for us.
Remember those wire coils that you plugged in, and dropped into the cup? They looked liked IUDs on steroids..
B&D 12 Cup. 7 coffee to 10 water. Packet of hot chocolate in the mug and pour coffee over it.
I had a Drip maker, but decided to go back to a percolator. I used a 30 year old version until it gave up the ghost. Last Fall, I bought one from Target for ~$25.00.
Not a fan of the “Pod Coffees”, and the drip wasn’t to my liking anymore either. I love my new percolator though.
Switched over to a Kuerig a couple years ago. We usually only drink 1 or sometimes 2 cups a day. No more throwing out half a pot. You get a fresh hot cup in about 30 seconds, and you can buy mesh k cups to fill with your own coffee if you don’t want to buy the prefilled cups.
Melitta programmable 10 cup drip with insulated carafe. I like it better than the Mr. Coffee it replaced; coffee stays hot and tasty for many hours. The Melitta filters also require less coffee to get same strength.
The best coffee is boiled in your one and only pan over a wood fire, and served with the grounds-in. Picking grounds out your teeth is part of the fun. No coffee ever tastes better than that which you drink while hunting.
I assume your thing works with k-cup reusable inserts?
Yeah, Zojirushi is a Japanese company, but everything they make is high quality from my experience. They are the Lexus of kitchen appliances. I also have their rice maker and bread machine. I do agree wth another poster that a cone filter style is the way to go.

Turning it off as soon as the coffee is brewed is the secret to having drinkable coffee from the same potful a couple of hours later. Of course you have to heat it up again.
I love my French press and won't use anything else. It's quick, it makes great coffee, I don't have to buy filters or those little individual serving thingees.
I can't image why anyone would use anything else. Maybe if we gave it a more rugged Americanized name, like a mud stomper or something . . .
I am the only coffee drinker in the household. I use the 4 cup Mr Coffee with the auto shut off feature.
