Why did Obama Compare Crusades to Islamic State at Prayer Breakfast?
Christian Science Monitor ^ | February 5, 2015 | Peter Grier

It’s possible that President Obama knew his remarks at the prayer breakfast would blow some of his opponents' stacks; it’s possible he’s surprised by the controversy. But controversy there is, manufactured or genuine.

At the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, President Obama made a reference to Christianity that infuriated some conservatives.

Speaking in general, Mr. Obama began by condemning zealots who hijack religion “for their own murderous ends.” He cited the recent massacre at a Pakistani school carried out by the Taliban, the assault on Charlie Hebdo headquarters in Paris perpetrated by radical Islamists, and the terrible murders carried out by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS or ISIS).

He widened his lens a bit, talking about the killings of Muslims and Christians in Nigeria and religious war in the Central African Republic.

How I ruined thanksgiving dinner my freshman year:

I went to a military school. At the time it was 99% male. When we ate our meals, you would ask for someone to “pass the milk, pass the butter, pass the juice”, etc. Of course, being all male, it came out as “Pass the F’ing butter. Pass the F’ing milk.”

So we sit down at Thanksgiving dinner. My grandmother sat down across from me.

So naturally, I wanted the gravy. So I said, plain as day...and loudly, “Please Pass the F@#king gravy.”

Silence.

My grandmother just looks at me. Laughs and passes the gravy.

Her Husband was a graduate of the same university some 50 years earlier. I am figuring it wasn’t the first time she heard a cuss.

My mom and dad were not so amused.

His point was, as it is when any leftist/atheist uses this argument,

that Christian standards of behavior and civilization are not valid,

because at some point in the history of humanity,
so person or group were hypocrites.

Laz,
I say it backfired on him because a lot of people are seeing his remarks as an irrelevant non sequitur that exposed the sordid depth of his misguided perceptions. It’s so obvious he was “reaching” in his lame attempt at moral equivalency by going back nearly 1,000 years ago and referring to events that are not remotely related to the ISIS problem. I think a lot of people can see that and wonder why he is making excuses for terrorists but at the same time is so anxious to find fault with this country. He probably thought he was being clever by equating ancient historical events to today’s problems but all it did was showcase his bitterness and biases. He overplayed his hand and has lost some chips IMO.

The Crusades took back only a pinpoint of territory that the muslim savages had taken over during the previous three centuries.

Boom!

From your link...

“It was nice of the President to give us a history lesson at the Prayer breakfast,” Jindal said. “Today, however, the issue right in front of his nose, in the here and now, is the terrorism of Radical Islam, the assassination of journalists, the beheading and burning alive of captives. We will be happy to keep an eye out for runaway Christians, but it would be nice if he would face the reality of the situation today. The Medieval Christian threat is under control, Mr. President. Please deal with the Radical Islamic threat today.”

Thanks for posting that link. I’ve been hard pressed to find pushback to 0bola’s pathetic parallel. We need more fortitude ala Gov Jindal.

I understand that.

I always hate when someone uses a “he did it first” argument. Ever civilization has done horrible things at one time or another. My God, the British thought we were barbarians because we shot at their officers from behind rock walls.

But, after time you have to let that stuff go. The inability for cultures to let things pass is foreign to that part of the world. It has always been a blood feud going back centuries.

My message to the Arab and Middle East world is to look at the children of the west. How many of us know one or two children that have died before adulthood. Now look at them and ask the same question. The same figure for them is four or five times as high.

If they cannot, or will not, protect their children and work for them to have a better life, how can we expect them to act towards us.

They will not change. We must. We can let them live in their part of the world, unchanged for centuries. But stop trying to make others change.

They hate “the infidel” and “the Jew” more than they love their own children.

Former White House Faith Leader Praises Obama For Linking Christianity To Islamic State Animals…

Obama’s one-time top jihad apologist JOSHUA DUBOIS also claims slavery and Jim Crow were done in the name of Christianity.

Any mention of the jihad against the Irish when moslem pirates carried off the entire population of Baltimore Ireland and enslaved them in Morocco?

I believe this happened during the reign of King Charles I.

. . . at least 40% of population decimated, mostly in Germany.

Sorry to be a grammar nazi, but you can't decimate more than 10% of the population.

Look up the meaning of the word.
