West Hollywood is the first city in California to adopt a policy of gender neutral public restrooms, giving businesses 60 days to change the little male and female stick figure signs on bathroom doors.
As the Los Angeles Times reports, businesses must comply with a new city law prohibiting gender identifications.
City leaders said that the old school men and women restrooms were outdated and puts transgender people in the difficult position of having to out themselves simply by picking a door.
I know for a number of transgender people that having to choose whether to go into the male or female restroom is not as easy as it can be for non-transgender people, said West Hollywood Councilwoman Abbe Land, who introduced the motion, which passed unanimously last year. Its all about access and equality.
Land said her council office is working to inform other cities about the law in the hope they will adopt it, but she expected it would face longer odds in areas with smaller, less visible LGBT populations.
Well, frankly Im not sure how LGBT populations can get less visible.
According to a study by the leading LGBT demographer at the University of California Los Angeles School of Laws Williams Institute, only 0.3 percent of U.S. adults are actually transgender. How can you get less visible than that? Zero percent?

“Public bathrooms are akin to chapels in gay culture”
Very True
Interstate Rest areas are like the Vatican to the homosexual community.
There is a website that list places where homosexuals can ‘cruise’ and nearly ALL of them are public restrooms.
We have a big rest area near Charleston that been closed for over a decade. I say it was closed because it wasn’t gay enough.
WHY are one-sex restrooms a problem for transgender people? They dress as one sex or the other, so they would just go in the one that corresponds to how they present themselves to the world.
Notice that in UNDER A YEAR this went from being a policy employed by a couple of government run buildings, to being MANDATED in a district by a local government. The left’s tyrannical aims are ramping up
So, if I decide to wear a dress, but not shave my beard does this mean I can use any bathroom in West Hollywood? And do I have to wear shorts under the dress or can I go commando?

With this hilarious nugget...
“Eliasnik said he put up the signs himself, paying $10 for each at Home Depot.
“It took me less than 30 minutes to do all of it,” he said.
He said the change helped his business because he’s open until 4 a.m. on the weekends in the heart of the city’s Boystown area, surrounded by gay bars and clubs.
In those early-morning hours after the clubs close, the restaurant is filled almost entirely with men, who formed lines at the men’s restroom door while the female restroom went unused.”
....
I’m sure those lines were for use of the facilities and neither the toilet or urinal.
Wow. Good thing I don’t have to go the bathroom in California.
The entire country has gone to hell.
Head FReeper BUMP!
West Hollywood isn't California, just as Greenwich Village isn't New York State, Boulder isn't Colorado, Austin isn't Texas and Madison isn't Wisconsin.
“Use whichever restroom you want, but if one of my kids reports a strange person in their restroom, said strange person will cease to be.
And suspect that the 0.3 percent have been indoctrinated / bullied to think that they are transgender, probably like many so-called gays.
So a female only establishment like “Curves” workout facilities must have gender neutral bathrooms.
Ditto for a YMCA men’s shelter.
Will nunneries be forced to have gender neutral bathrooms, too?
For the 99+% of the population that prefers using their gender's bathroom, how will they know which one to use if the signs are removed? Maybe paint one door pink and the other blue?
And what if your little girl walks into the restroom I'm already using? Are you going to walk in behind her and kick my ass?
This is a horrible law.
“how will they know which one to use if the signs are removed? Maybe paint one door pink and the other blue? “
Years ago I went to a club that would reverse the signs on the restrooms during the night. Weird feeling especially after of few ...
Using "gender" when you mean "sex" is already a concession to this lunacy.
well West Hollywood is the Gay version of San Francisco
The word "gender" to mean sex has been in use since the 14th century, hence the term "transgender". I'm pretty sure people here knew what I meant.
