OK:Failure of Victim Selection: Do not Burglarize a Gun Rights Supporter

Pastor Vinyard in his Church

It appears that the teen burglar did not read the papers.   It is foolish to burgle the house of a "vocal supporter of gun rights", and then attack them in their home.  Tom Vinyard is the senior pastor of Windsor Hills Baptist Church, and has been outspoken in his political beliefs.  From newsok.com:
A pastor at a northwest Oklahoma City church who has been a vocal proponent of gun rights has been cleared of wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy at the pastor’s home.

(snip)

The pastor arrived home about 3 p.m. and as he checked his house, he was attacked by the burglar, who had been hiding in a closet in a back bedroom, Prater said.
The pastor even put signs on his family's home warning criminals of the danger: From oklahomasentinel.com:
On December 23, police identified the alleged intruder as 14-year-old Keontre Reese.
Several signs are posted around the pastor’s home. One on the front door reads, “Nothing on this property is worth your life.”
While on a mission in Africa, Pastor Vinyard's home was invaded and his skull fractured.   He and his family cooperated with the robbers, but it was not enough.  Highly restrictive gun laws in the country that they were in prevented them from being armed.

I suspect that the experience did much to shape and reinforce Pastor Vinyard into the second amendment supporter that he is.

It is sad that his fourteen year old attacker did not pay attention in Sunday school, if he went, and did not heed the warnings on Pastor Vinyard's house.

Don’t we want the same ‘outcome’ (re your first sentence)

I want policies in place that will guarantee (not apply a bandaid) the ‘outcome’ that young black males currently walking the earth become the financial responsibility of the parents, not the TAXPAYER!

Then, hopefully around mid century, long after I’m gone, our kids and grandchildren will not be threatened by them as they are now.

Well that's three of you. Here's a link to a recent Freeper thread Santa delivered a lot of guns .
In that link is a hyperlink to the site and story with loads of Liberals
bashing Gun owners. Story here_Santa delivered a lot of guns .

There's a link below the story that says Comments, click on that a few times
and you'll find agnostic Liberals trying to use Christianity against
a poster to shut them up.

This is recent, so you know it's always going on and I'm not talking about
some random event from an obscure poster.

Glad to assist. Have a Great New Years.

I have been and continue to be a stalwart 2nd amendment supporter.

Cheers and Happy New Year,

I understood exactly from the first what your proposition is, but making the parents responsible when the parent(s) can no longer control their child's behavior is not supported by Scripture or our laws, and rightly so.

At this point, it is the duty of the society in which the child lives to either force the child to submit to its rules of behavior, when the parents cannot.

The child may become so oppositionally defiant that he/she may escalate rebelliousness to the level of harming the parent(s) or other members of the society, and must be imprisoned or executed.

When the child reaches this stage of development at which he/she may be held accountable for his/her own behavior, he/she must suffer the consequences, not the parents.

On the other hand, when/if the parent(s) have the power and can be expected to govern the child and do not, we already have laws in force to charge the parent with negligence. All we have to do is enforce the laws already on the books.

Seriously?

Did you that much research on my post, to make sure you understood why I was trying to say?

It’s often easier to simply communicate clearly the first time.

No research, I read up on that story yesterday and it was fresh in my mind.
Just following up, so you shouldn't be upset.

We are going to just have to agree to disagree!

I appreciate your comments.

If it is disagreement, then my opinion is only to cite what the Bible says, and what our laws say. Furthermore, both are color-blind on this issue.

FYI, I grew up in a small town where both the parents, his teachers, and youths of the same age group (12-14) were terrified of one fellow. His parents dared not both to sleep at the same time until he was finally committed to the state reform school and permanently removed from the community.

“.. it looks like this child was just a year or so away from being admitted to medical school.”

He might still make it if his parent(s) decide to donate his body to science...

Well, of course I would prefer the Deuteronomy route if we could go that way but “dream on”.

The only difference between me and you as near as I can tell is you prefer to use the term “reform school” and for our BROKE government to pay for it.

Whether reform school or adult probation, the parents are responsible and should not get off scot free.
