You’re quite welcome! I remember that song because we had an old player piano back in the day. It was great. :)

“Ebb Tide” is a popular song, written in 1953 by the lyricist Carl Sigman and composer Robert Maxwell. An instrumental version by organist Kenneth W. Griffin was played in the fifth season premiere of the TV drama Mad Men.[1]

The song’s build up is to illustrate the ocean waves coming in and out to and from the shores, due to those Ebb Tides.
Recordings

The best-known versions are by Frank Chacksfield & His Orchestra (1953), Vic Damone (1953), Roy Hamilton (1954), Frank Sinatra (1958), The Platters (1960), Lenny Welch (1964) and the Righteous Brothers (1965). The Righteous Brothers vocal version was the most successful, peaking at #5 in the US. Bobby Hatfield sang the lead on this song, and it was the final song that Phil Spector produced for the Righteous Brothers before they departed. This was a followup to the hit song “Unchained Melody” which was also recorded by Roy Hamilton.

Was definitely thinking of The Platters -- and it was actually two songs I was remembering. (No wonder I was getting screwed up.)

Smoke Gets in Your Eyes (one vocal section in particular was sticking in my memory)

and

Ebb Tide

FReepers are the best! Thanks to everyone who helped to jog my memory. All of you have posted a bunch of links to great songs (including "Fish Heads" -- yes, I know that one!)

Smoke gets in your eyes was one of the end of the high school dance slow dance song. the other was Blue Velvet.

Both the best slow dance tunes to have. I guess if I ever had a wish it would be to slow dance to those two tunes one more time.

Go to “Tropical Glen” and listen to all of the songs of the’50s.

You'll find it sooner or later

There is this thing I saw online that if you know the melody of a song you can put it into this thing where it asks simply if the next note is higher, lower, or the same... and after a bunch of notes it tells you the song you are thinking of. It was kinda clever.

A nice little slow waltz-beat, one-two-three, one-two-three, As time goes by ... I realize ... just what you mean ... to me,

And now ... now that you're near ... promise your love .. that we've waited to share ... and dream .. of our moments toGEHHHHHHther ... Color my world .. with hopes of loving you (and then a flute solo) ....

Oh, man! I can hear that song! Haven't thought of it in years! A pretty tune by a great singer, though I have no idea who.

Hope that helps! {^)
