The concept of white privilege remains controversial in the same way people still argue about climate change. A small, increasingly-fringe faction might argue that it doesn't exist at all. Another broad, more conservative group might concede that it does, technically, exist, but still disagree about what it means, whether it's important and what, if anything, we can do about it.
Still, many others would argue that acknowledging and working to understand it is an important step toward fixing the problem -- in the case of white privilege, the problem being compounded, inter-generational inequality that, although sometimes subtle, is still present in the everyday lives of people of color.
Even if we concede that white privilege -- the idea that being born white comes with certain inherent advantages -- is "controversial," does that mean the topic shouldn't be broached in a college course?
According to one white Lone Star College-Tomball student, the concept is just too offensive -- offensive enough to file a complaint against his professor, according to Channel 2.

Gotcha.
When they talk about white privilege, liberals always leave out the following white privileges:
1. A white person can vote for whomever he or she wishes to vote without being considered a traitor to the white race.
2. A white person can publicly disagree with another white person without being called names.
3. A white person can emphasize academics rather than sports or gangsta stuff without being called a sell-out.
4. A white person is allowed to have an opinion other than the Democrat talking points without being criticized.
Our dear Liberals are attempting to do Christianity without a Christ, and the result is chaos.
Ultimately, “white privilege” is simply “good [or right] attitude.”
The idea that blacks generally have lower IQ's than whites is 'controversial' does that mean the topic shouldn't be broached in a college course?
The idea that blacks, especially young black males are highly criminal is 'controversial' does that mean the topic shouldn't be broached in a college course?
We could go on for some time...
This same college system has been sued by IRCOT (Immigration Reform Coalition of Texas over grant monies used to finance illegal alien college students. So far case doing pretty good made it past the Texas Supreme Court even though MALDEF was permitted to intervene on the case.
Based on this rigged game with our tax dollars seems like everyone but whites ought to be checking their privilege.
Exactly.
That's blindingly obvious to any Christian: Jesus is the center and foundation of our faith — without the center, it cannot hold; without the foundation, it cannot stand.
White privilege has blocked Asian students from attending good schools and getting good jobs for YEARS! One can hardly blame citizens of Chinese and Japanese origin for raging through the streets, stealing textbooks and computers - what else can they do when faced with WHITE PRIVILEGE?
Whities keeping their heel on the neck of the Yellow Man. That is what this thread is about, isn’t it?
this is the excuse dejour.
anyone remember “Black Rage”?
Black is all pigments. It is the absence of color.
Yup. But light is the complete opposite as pigment. Add all colors together to get white. Remove all light and you get black.
When I was young, that confused me a bit.
You can truthfully say that light is both the presense of all colors and the absence of all colors. Just depends upon what you are talking about.
I was astounded, as I had two daughters who I was counting on going to college; but, would they be given negative points because their father and I were married, and had stayed married? It is this type of insanity that has made me go all John Galt and pretty much check out of the culture. When doing the right thing by your kids (being married, staying married, providing a good home for them) is thought to be "privilege" and thus punished because there are some people who aren't so fortunate to have married parents; well, the culture is doomed. My biggest problem with it was that I considered what they thought of as "privilege" as something that anyone can do. IOWs, a choice you make in your life. No one (with the exception of those horrid gay activists) is being prevented from doing what I and my husband did, and thus benefitting from a stable lifestyle.
Allen West talks about it in the above link.
Booker t. Washington excoriated the race baiters of his day...
If he were here today, he would do the same with sharpton, et al.; call em out and expose them.
What isn’t discussed too much is the hazing/ridicule/physical violence done by a particular group against anyone of that group trying to succeed academically.
I kept it generic because its not just one group that does it to their own members... there are a couple ethnic groups that do it.
The message needs to go out that academic achievement is color-less and any Alinsky type methods are to be ignored and any physical confrontations are to be defended against...
Question:
Has anyone asked sharpton, et al. if they will counter the hazing etc and get the message out that everyone should apply themselves to their studies and anyone trying to stop them is wrong in doing so ?
Booker t Washington excoriated the race baiters of his day ...
He’d have some choice words to say to sharpton et al if he were here today.
Ping to #93 & #94....
I think the author is a little confused about who are the fringe faction.
You are right! We should start a campaign showing a long line of whiteys voting. “Don’t be like whitey.”
