Oh, those dastardly illegals. They come into our country, they live off our social safety net, they take our jobs, and they cause all kinds of grief.
That's a fair description of many conversations in recent months regarding illegal immigrants. The message is clear: “It is unethical to take and take when you haven't earned the right.”
That gets us to the Freep-a-thon. Statistics found easily on the internet prove that only 5% of Freepers support the other 95%. Count the number of unique hits Free Republic receives. Count the number of actual donors...and voila...you will discover that only 5% are supporting Free Republic.
You'd think 95% of Freepers would be defending the right of illegals to take and take and take and take — and never give.
After all, they could be charged with the same thing.
Make no mistake, it is understood that there are those just recovering from tragedy, unemployment, a family crisis, the loss of income, and other problems that DO crop up in life from time to time. But NOT 95% of Freepers. It would be hard to argue such a thing.
It would be easy, on the other hand, to argue that Free Republic offers a real voice to the average conservative. It has the best cyber-conversation software anyplace. It is a conservative forum that does not apologize for being conservative. We aren't beset with ANY ads, memory devouring pop-ups or auto-runs because we're self funded. We aren't continually harassed by liberal trolls on someone’s payroll to disrupt conservative conversations. We are able to talk about God, family, wholesome morality, natural marriage, natural sexuality, and truthful politicians without being assaulted by mindless, liberal moderators taking away our ability to even be present.
You have a voice at Free Republic.
My only question: “Do you have a twinge of guilt over being compared to an illegal?”
If so, then donate today to the Freep-a-thon. Put us over the top this Thanksgiving week! Donate what you can: 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 500. Just about everybody can afford something.

Free Republic: Freedom is Worthy of Your Support!
lol — well played.
Great post. Spot on!
Just damn. Until I got a few sentences in, I was ready to nominate you for the coveted “Troll of the Decade” award!
I know. I was ready to bash me myself. :>)
It’s true, though. Many Freepers appreciate Free Republic and use it daily, but get overcome with procrastination at Freep-a-thon time. A little kick in the pants never hurt anyone.
I had both guns drawn and cocked! LOL
Took me almost to the end to get it, (but I’m old and slow anyway.)
Nice post.
Steppin’ up. $50 bump from California.
I ain’t no Freeloading Freeper.
Good post. I do what I can when I can.
Do you have Wet Jammies or Dry Jammies? Donate today
Free Republic doesn't have the financing of some billionaire, hidden in the background. Free Republic is "grass roots" all the way. We don't have 10 donors with $10,000 each, but we sure could use 10,000 donors with $10 each. The dollar amount may be the same, but the difference is in how we get there.
WE NEED YOU! Anything you can give is so greatly appreciated. If you can become a monthly donor, that is fabulous. If five dollars is what you can manage, bring it! Your on-going support is crucial, and our thanks to you are immeasurable.
Good point. But I’m not against FR accepting advertising revenue.
And that is the TRUTH.
I am. I’ve tried to go to some sites and they are so slowed down by their ads, and so cluttered with their ads, that it’s a bad experience. Breitbart is so bad that it locks this computer up more than half the time I go there, and this computer is only about a year and a half old.
Also, advertisers try to manipulate the views and voice of those who host their ads. They think: “Get them dependent on your money and you can change who they are.”
You can be selective about the ads you accept. They don’t seem to slow down Drudge.
