Brittany Maynard, the Oregon woman who had become an outspoken advocate for patients' rights following her terminal cancer diagnosis, died on Saturday, the Oregonian reported. She was 29.
"Goodbye to all my dear friends and family that I love," she wrote in a Facebook post, according to People. "Today is the day I have chosen to pass away with dignity in the face of my terminal illness... the world is a beautiful place, travel has been my greatest teacher, my close friends and folks are the greatest givers... goodbye world. Spread good energy. Pay it forward!"
Earlier this year, Maynard learned that she was suffering from an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma and had only six months to live. After hearing what the disease would to her body in its final stages, she decided that she wanted to die on her own terms.

What did I say she should do? What are you talking about?
Well said in post 71.
You drew a specious, moralistic distinction between Ms Maynard and the WTC suicide jumpers.
Job 19:
25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
Amen!
They will know we are Christians by our love. Some people here I have my doubts, but thank Him, I don't have to judge! Let the Shepard worry about the state of the lambs! It's HIS JOB, not mine.
If she went to a government school or a non-Christian private school, it’s a certainty.
You are so consumed with hate for the Catholic Church that, in order to make a cheap point, you will deny something so obvious as that a person who is being licked by flames loses his freedom.
You should pray that nobody ever threatens to behead you or burn you alive if you will only deny Jesus Christ.
If Heaven is full of people like you, I’d rather be in Hell.
Suicide straight to hell is not a Catholic teaching. Catholic teaching is that suicide is a grave sin but the culpability of the person committing suicide depends on things such as the person’s state of mind. Also a person who commits suicide has the possibility of reconciling themselves with God in their dying moments.
Objectively though, a Catholic who fully knows the teaching of the Church and who commits suicide without any type of extenuating circumstances will go straight to Hell.
It's not up to us anyway. It's up to Jesus. He will ultimately decide who is, and who isn't his at the final judgement.
And neither will you, more than likely, when you croak.
She was a saint.
The perseverance of martyrs under torture is miraculous—which is precisely why it is the cause of so many conversions.
Your assertion that the jumpers on 9/11 acted freely is bizarre. If you are serious, you should see a professional who is qualified to treat mental derangement.
“And she will burn in HELL”
Because she chose not to fight a divine plan that includes a cessation of her earthly existence?
“Now choose life, so that you and your children may live”
Right. But in Brittany’s case, God chose death for her. She didn’t fight Him by launching on some hopeless regimen of medications that would’ve at best extended the suffering for a few days. She was given a death sentence and accepted it. The sanctimonious set can’t seem to understand that.
“And she will burn in HELL”
Disgusting sentiment.
I hope this woman found peace, and I hope the family stays strong at this hard time.
Good morning maceman, I am sorry for your loss. I do not know how I would get by if I had to go through such a blow.
I have a friend who is in constant pain that can’t be fixed through current medical care. He is in agony daily and it’s getting worse. He has mentioned to me on several occasions that he doesn’t know if he can go on and implied that it could be better if he was dead. I’ve argued against that and tried to research solutions and treatments for him.
It’s crushing to watch.
Just a thought to stir the pot...
Did Jesus commit suicide by cop?
He could have stopped the crucifixion at any time.
Flame away.
