Civil rights investigators with the U.S. Justice Department told Ferguson, Mo. police chief Tom Jackson that he needs to ban his officers from wearing bracelets supporting the officer who shot and killed unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown.
DOJ officials said they'd directly witnessed officers in St. Louis County wearing the wristbands that read "I am Darren Wilson" while on duty, the Huffington Post reports.
In a letter to Jackson, the Justice Department said it wants to "confirm our understanding" with the chief that his officers won't wear the bracelets, which drew complaints from Ferguson residents this week.
Also an issue: officers not wearing their nameplates. DOJ officials said that they'd personally observed some officers in St. Louis County going without the identifying name badges.
Sometimes things are just so obvious that we feel like we can recommend a change right away, Christy Lopez, an official with the DOJ's Civil Rights Division, said during a meeting with Ferguson residents. In a democracy, people need to know who their police are.
A grand jury is currently in underway to decide if Darren Wilson will be charged with a crime in Brown's shooting. The FBI has launched its own civil rights investigation of the case.

If I were a Ferguson cop, I’d secure a U-Haul one way. Some people are not worth protecting.
Under what authority does the DoJ make that demand? Demand that they cite the statute.
What authority did Himmler use?
I kind of figured that they were using the “Himmler statute” but I’d demand that they say it publicly.
What the Fluke is a “civil rights investigator”?
They should have the EXACT same response as the ‘animals’ in FL and Ferguson would tell them if they were ‘banned’ from wearing I am Trayvon or I am whotheflockever shirts and hats etc. OR get told to get the garbage memorial off the middle of the street.
Rabble-rousers paid for by your tax dollars.
Very good point.
[In a democracy, people need to know who their police are. ]
More than that, they need to know who the criminals are who are living amongst them.
It makes sense then that in the black community if you need help against someone committing a criminal act upon you, don’t call the police, call a criminal. You would feel safer, right? After all, the bruthahs, sistas and muthas is all law abidin’ and know how to end the confrontation humanely and without violence.
It is not constitutional for you to dictate what LEO’s may not wear.
You gonna tell em to not wear flags because it might offend someone?
Maybe they shouldn’t wear black bands in support of a fallen brother.
Or, no wearing of ribbons to support cancer research?
Maybe LEO’s shouldn’t be allowed to shave their heads and donate hair for kids?
Pound sand...
I am Darren Wilson...
We are seeing the Left moving this nation from the rule of law to tribal rule. It is opening the door to Sharia Law where the local culture had its own tribal chieftain that demands individual obligations or duties to the community and does not recognize individual rights.
We have a right to know who is policing us Holder? Like the thousands of nameless bureaucrats who write endless regulations and rules that turn us all in to criminals? On what authority can Holder demand police stop wearing the braceletts. Melanin uber alles.
Christy. Lopez is a hardcore leftist activist lawyer....like most in Holders DOJ
Been active 10 years
You have to wonder what creates such monsters
No orgasms....ever?.....she’s not as hideous as usual
Folks like her would have been on the Committee for Public Safety during the Reign of Terror
They can only wish....for now
It seems every conceivable racial and religious minority in America along with pissed off oppressed womyn desire to destroy America as we knew it
We’ve given them the means and the power
In a democracy? We live in a republic.
Even if they could “cite a statute”, that does not give authority for the “UNITED STATES” to say anything that goes on in a local police department.
“Civil rights investigators with the U.S. Justice Department told Ferguson, Mo. police chief Tom Jackson that he needs to ban his officers from wearing bracelets supporting the officer who shot and killed unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown.”
One wonders if there was a lot of arm-twisting and thinly-veiled threats made behind the scenes by these investigators. I can’t see how they could possibly have legitimate constitutional authority to order a municipal (i.e. non-federal) police force to remove the bracelets.
Maybe a to hell with islam bulletin boards all over the country, mohammmmmad sicker than obamma signs, its our right..when we can no longer say what we see, what we see becomes irrelevant.
