Yes! My husband won’t entertain the idea one bit. Although, it’s probably because we are just trying to survive day by day as our financial situation is extremely difficult right now. We are moving towards self sufficiency and that alone means having a full larder every winter. We are a long way from that, but are way ahead of a few years ago. If we are willing to eat turtle meat we could live for years here!

He feels my desire to prepare for a crisis is a lack of faith in God as our provider.

Turtle meat? You must be in Georgia! I was stationed at Fort Gordon for a few years and every time I went fishing all I could catch were turtles.

As for us, we are a lot further along than we were years ago too. One of my adult kids is an advocate of prepping too so that helps.

Might be helpful to point out to him that there was only one time the Lord just dropped food out of the sky; the rest of the time He has expected people to work, harvest, and save. Specifically the Proverbs woman is commended in Scripture for her diligence in taking care of her household and providing for her family, so your husband should grant that your worth is "far above rubies."

“He feels my desire to prepare for a crisis is a lack of faith in God as our provider.”

Reminds me of an old joke...

This guy is standing on standing on his front porch in a storm, looking at the ground covered with a few inches of water, when the Sheriff comes by in an SUV.

“It looks like it’s going to flood here”, the sheriff tells him. “You better head to higher ground.”

“Nope”, the guy says. “I’m going to stay here, pray, and put my faith in the lord.”

A while later the water is 4 feet deep, and a deputy comes by in a boat. “The levy is breaking. You need to come with us now.”

“Nope, I’m staying here. I have faith the Lord will help.”

The deputy says, “Well I’ve got other people to pick up. I’ll come back if I can.”

A few hours later the water is 10’ deep, and they guy is on his roof. A helicopter comes by, and lowers a ladder.

“I’m not going!”, the guy says. “I have faith the lord will save me!”

A while later a huge wall of water sweeps in and drowns the guy. When he gets to heaven, he asks St. Peter, “I’ve been faithful all my life. Why didn’t the lord save me?”

St. Peter says, “He sent you an SUV, a boat and a helicopter. What more do you want?”

Funny.... My mom always told me that God helps those who help themselves.

Your Husband evidently hasn’t studied the story of Joseph enough. He prepared for 7 years of famine in a practical way. All that stored grain didn’t just save itself and jump into the Egyptian storehouses.

Unless his name is Elijah and he is getting fed by a raven everyday.

Somewhere I have a cookbook with directions for preparing turtle. All I can remember from it is that you treat it kind of like lobster in that you drop them in boiling water live. I’ll see if I can find it again.
