Anyone else find Drudge's headline & pic a little... odd?

not sure if it's a double meaning (’the Queen of Soul’ covers the Divas,’ versus ‘King’ Zero's “cover” of Bush's Iraq) but her album is the hottest news to hit the blues industry in years!

‘Retha didn't choose easy songs: Gladys Knight’s “Midnight Train to Georgia,” Alicia Keys’s “No One,”... and.. Etta James’s “At Last,” aren't for amateurs and she's going to have to blow the doors off the vocals. But if she's pulled it off, out of RESPECT, I'll buy two! I have more faith in the Queen of Soul's endeavor than Zero's, tho.

"Aretha make a historic appearance on David Letterman on September 29th to announce the album. And she will sing the lead single, which will blow your minds. I heard it today. Aretha has recorded her own spectacular version of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” Yes, that “Rolling in the Deep.” And with all respect to Adele, which Aretha gives, this version of the song is jaw dropping. It swings and rocks.
Adele, mind you, is learning about this right here. None of the writers or singers whom Aretha has covered got advance word."

--- I guess this is big news. I have no idea who Adele is...

She’s a young woman, about 23 or so, who went platinum on a couple of albums. She has had a few #1 hits that she wrote herself.

Excellent!

Beats a headline with “Curtains”, I think.

Yep, exactly the first thing that came to my mind. Thought maybe Aretha had died, she has been reported to be in bad health. I guessed that Matt was snoozing and one of his assistants hijacked the headline in a spoof.

Saw her at Wolf Trap ten years ago. She was big then, and now looks bigger. Regardless, she’s still got The Voice and puts all the current posers to shame.

GREAT song about SD’s sound engineer, Elliot Scheiner and his date with a young girl.

Also, Elliot was the subject of the song, “Haitian Divorce”.

Through the years, Mr. Scheiner has worked with a veritable Who’s Who of artists, but his relationship with Fagen stretches way back to the early Steely Dan era.

Serious fans like us (every Mixmaster Lassa “-of-The-Year” compilation disk has included at least one song from the Steely Dan/Fagen repertoire) will be interested to learn it was Scheiner’s Haitian divorce that inspired that Royal Scam album tune of 1976.

His lawyer advised him to finalize his divorce before the end of the year, and Haiti provided on-the-spot service. Just bring notarized paperwork, the judge forks over an elaborate wax-sealed document, and then there’s a big party.

Some years later, Scheiner was set up on a blind date by his pals, as a joke, with a girl 11 years his junior. They had nothing in common, they couldn’t dance together, and for heaven’s sake, she’d never heard of Aretha Franklin-the Queen of Soul. Yep, it inspired 1980’s “Hey Nineteen” released on the album Gaucho.
