“Grid Jihad”: What If You Had a Week to Prep for the End of the World?
SHTF Plan ^ | 9/4/14 | Daisy Luther

Posted on 09/04/2014 6:21:37 PM PDT by Kartographer

Pry provided details of recent attacks on electricity systems and said that ISIS could easily team with Mexican drug cartels to ravage America.

He told Secrets, for example, that the Knights Templar drug gang blacked out the electric grid of the Mexican state of Michoacan in 2013 to provide cover for killing those fighting the drug trade.

“The Knights Templars and other criminal gangs in Mexico will do anything for money, and ISIS, the richest terrorist organization in history, has hundreds of millions of dollars at its disposal,” said Pry.

“ISIS could hire one of the Mexican cartels, or one of their criminal gangs already in the U.S., or activate jihadist terror cells already in the U.S., and inflict a multi-state blackout immediately, within days or weeks. Perhaps even a nationwide blackout,” Pry explained to Secrets.

“I am not saying it is likely they will do so. But given the capabilities and objectives of ISIS and our obvious vulnerabilities, it would be foolish to ignore the threat to the grid, to regard the threat as unlikely. Our planning should be based on imminent asymmetrical threats, and not assume that another 9/11 large-scale attack is years away,” he added.

The Texas Department of Public Safety recently said they believe there is evidence that ISIS plans an attack. (source)

I don’t think you can make one blanket statement. There are huge differences between the cities and major urban areas. It also depends on what happens, EMP vs ebola vs economic meltdown.

Here in Tampa I’m sure fishing will become popular and robbing successful fishermen will also become popular. In NYC there isn’t much chance of finding food but whatever govt is in place will certainly focus on the major cities like NYC, Chicago or Washington. In the North East the die off may be 90% but in Nashville it may only be 50%.

I once heard when I was a kid that America works because we all want peace, that cops only exist to take care of the very few bad guys, but if we all went nuts there is nothing anyone could do. A few bad guys leveraging that fact are able to do serious damage.

No brand names needed. A few minutes research and you will find the market is constantly moving and the names change.

The one brand name I do like is Trojan Batteries.

As far as panels or charge controllers, even Harbor Freight sells Packages that have all the parts.

“Clean” water, absolutely. Dirty water will no doubt be consumed and disease will set in. In my area Giardia will do in many people that drink dirty water.

“...cities that need to import thousands of truckloads of food every single day to sustain life.”

Denver metro has about 3 million people. It takes about 450 tons of food daily to feed them just one meal consisting of 1/3 pound of food.

450 tons...daily. That’s a lot of logistics. Cities won’t make it if the supply lines are out.

Was searching last night. Lots of stuff, but not a lot of reliability ratings on what I found, just a lot of folks willing to sell you everything. I'll have to refine my search. I'll look into the batteries. Thanks!

Gotta get me one of those. AAC model.
Was about to, but then a newly-released factory-threaded-barrel Glock 19 distracted my wallet.

I would start with reading about solar panels and the types being sold. Not difficult but something necessary to ensure you don’t buy junk.

I don't buy your 90% die off.

Neither do I.

It'll be 100%.

Very good pamphlet!

If you don’t want to build it yourself, you can even buy one. Kind of pricey, but if you buy it on credit and get it delivered RIGHT before the SHTF, you can consider it free!

You disagree that ancient Rome had over a million useless eaters, utterly dependent on government handouts? Ok... but that's not how history shows it

And rome threw Christians to the lions too to keep the human eater entertained

And of course we all know how well the roman empire finally turned out - once the ability to support consumers over producers fizzled out.

I’m at 425 ft. I need to figure out a way to get water from it without a generator.

I wish my property had a spring.

a more practical item would be sewage/human waste gasification systems - adapted from manure gasification systems.

As painfully detailed in _One_Second_After_, we keep overlooking how large a percentage of our population is alive ONLY because of medical maintenance. Lack of insulin & blood thinners alone will knock off a LOT of people in one month flat. Many more will expire from many other ailments which are easy, even trivial, to correct IF the lights are on and trucks are moving.

As for “mothers will work the system that is left to make sure the people that know how stuff works will do what is required”: you can’t make gardens grow overnight no matter how hungry the kids are, and you can’t make gasoline when it’s deep in a hole in Iraq. The cooperative & motivated will indeed work with those who know how stuff works, but if they don’t have the stuff they need to work with they can’t make it work. Grocery stores have about 3 days food supply on hand at any given time. Most people’s pantries won’t last a week. Freezer contents will rot within days unless it’s winter and you’re in a northern state. Most water is pumped for delivery. We’re where we are BECAUSE “people that know how stuff works do what is required”, and it took upwards of a century to put required working stuff in place.

We’re a society built on a “just in time” supply chain that stretches around the world and delivers in days (if not minutes). Few people will even know how to build a sensible cooking fire, and not melt the handle off the frying pan first time they try - because of so much reliance on that electricity-and-gas powered supply chain.
