It was inevitable.
Rookie Michael Sam, heralded as the first openly gay player in the National Football League, was released Saturday by the St. Louis Rams, prompting the liberal blog Mother Jones to run what amounted to a photo of the player, along with a provocative, almost juvenile headline.
The post, Michael Sam, Who Is Better At Football Than You Will Ever Be At Anything, Has Been Cut By the Rams, offered no perspective whatsoever. In fact, other than the headline, there were no words.
When Sam was first drafted, it was clear that if he were to eventually be cut, St. Louis would face unfair scrutiny, never mind that the annals of pro football are full of college all stars who failed to catch on in the NFL.
Or that the odds were against Sam from the beginning gay or not.
It turns out that St. Louis was already deep at the position Sam plays, with two of the best defensive lineman in the NFL already on the squad, and Sam was outplayed by a fellow rookie, an undrafted free agent out of West Texas A&M who led the team in solo tackles in the preseason, according to Fox Sports....

A team is allowed to have 90 players at the start of training camp, and must cut down to 53 before week 1 of the regular season (plus a ten man practice squad). This means that 1184 players will be cut before ever playing in an official game.
I hope the Redskins sign him. So I can see the confusion and heads explode among liberals and ESPN.
You want to see heads explode ? Have the teams name changed from the Redskins to the...........................Foreskins! A manly name for a manly team playing a manly game.
Yeah but 1183 of those players don’t matter. Only Sam does. He’s the most famous 249th draft pick of all time.
The NFL isn’t a homo wedding, just as we suspected.
I guess you could say that he got..
...rammed.
“In fact, other than the headline, there were no words.”
I looked up the author of the piece. Apparently the guy (Ben Dreyfuss) is an “engagement editor”, which apparently means he’s the social media guy who puts stuff on Twitter feeds. Might explain why his rant is so short.
Speaking of which...what a bunch of hissy fit crapola. There are millions of people better at what they do than Michael Sam is at football. Though I *will* say Sam is a better football player than Ben Dreyfuss is a writer...
What is the outcome of say the last ten 249 draft picks? Only if a majority make the team would I think this is about sexuality.
I’m hoping San Francisco will pick him up and then change their name (in honor of the Girardelli chocolate factory in their town) to the San Francisco Fudge Packers.
Hundreds and Hundreds of players were cut, and all of them were better than most of the people reading about it will ever be.
Your facts are bigoted.
Something like that....
If the Guy was a QB and could hit a moving Pie Pan from 50 Yards out, they wouldn’t care if he wore a Tutu under his Uniform and sang Show Tunes in the Locker Room Shower.
Liberals don’t appreciate competence, thus we have Obama.
Reminds me of the old TV show CARTER COUNTRY. The chief hired a black cop because the only black cop on the force had talked him into hiring the guy. When the cop was fired he said to the chief, “You’re just firing me ‘cause I’m black.”
The chief said “No. I hired you ‘cause you’re black. I’m firing you ‘cause you’re a lousy cop.” Sam was drafted because he’s gay. And there’s no other reason.
How many Heisman Trophy winners (Best College player award) never make it to the Pros?
OmG! Now I’m waiting for that to happen.

The "pros" or the NFL. Charlie Ward won it, but he wanted to go to the NBA and he was drafted by the NBA. (which is, "the pros") Jason White in 2005 went undrafted, and eventually signed a preseason contract, but then decided to retire from football. One Heisman winner in the 1950s went undrafted, because he decided to go into the military.
