AUGUST 31, 2014 Anatomy of a GOP Disaster: Losing Pennsylvania Governor Corbett has lost support by raising taxes and giving ground to public-sector unions. By John Fund
All over the country Republican governors are either poised for easy reelection (such as Ohios John Kasich and Nevadas Brian Sandoval) or running even or better against Democrats (Wisconsins Scott Walker and Floridas Rick Scott). Then there is Governor Tom Corbett in Pennsylvania. The latest independent poll has him down a shocking 49 percent to 24 percent (with a quarter of voters undecided) against Democrat Tom Wolf.
How did Corbett become such an outlier? The answers show just how much trouble Republicans get into if they allow machine politics and public-sector unions to dictate their agenda.

Thanks for this Republican In Name Only alert.
PA people would bring Arlen out of the grave if they could and let him be governor. I know he was senator, but the sheeple don’t know the difference.
The name “Republican” doesn’t really have any meaning.
It is a word that has no value.
A nationwide-wide movement pushing the idea of Limited Government would be powerful. But the Republicans are as much afraid of that ideas as the Democrats. So the Republicans keep running as Democrats, and they keep losing.
given what he’s done, not a great loss for us at all. we need to get the milktoasts/rinos/spineless/populists out.
Still though the fault is the PA Republican primary voters who keep nominating poor candidates.
Then why do we call them RINOs?
What's interesting is that I've been thinking about relocating to Pennsylvania and domiciling my start-up business venture there to take advantage of some tax provisions where PA is favorable compared to the state where I live now (New Jersey).
If that jerk Wolf is elected and he's serious about instituting a progressive income tax despite the constitutional requirement for a flat income tax rate, then I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
Pennsylvania is what happens when government is viewed as an industry by both major parties. This is why the article is spot on when it warns of potentially dire consequences -- like PA following Illinois right down the toilet of insolvency.
I do not know.
It is a distinction without a difference.
It seems to me that there are not two parties in this country, but actually two distinct groups.
Rulers and Subjects.
We have all been lied to, deceived and played, liberals and conservatives alike, we have been lied to by those who rule us.
So right. What difference does it make? D, R, none.
he can’t dictate to the the corrupt republican establishment. they have jobs don’t ya know. he could have backed conservative challengers in some of the primaries. Unions win.
The ONLY thing worthwhile in PA is Amish food.
Corbett needs to step aside. He could conceivably lose by 20%.
Corbett had his peeps run his opponent off the ballot, so he was unopposed. There were no particular signs when he was Attorney General he’d end up such a disaster.
More even, 25%.
Is it too late for him step aside? He obviously isn’t going to. He should not have run again. A shame he didn’t have a primary challenger, though that guy who got kicked off the ballot, Guzzardi, sounds like a real loser.
Ugh.
Why is he so unpopular anyway?
It seems like every scandal and mishap managed to get attached to him. I could be wrong, but I think the Paterno/Sandusky thing might’ve been the death blow.
Well, look on the bright side. If Wolf gets in and is predictably moonbat, especially on taxes, he’ll be a one-term wonder. Corbett could stop this now by standing aside and having a respected figure step in (perhaps ex-Gov. Mark Schweiker or outgoing Rep. Jim Gerlach).
I’m not sure anything makes a difference.
This nation has known nothing but lies for so long that it wouldn’t be able to recognize the truth if the truth kicked it right where it hurts, and it will, and it won’t be recognized.
