The government does not govern by the consent of the people. The government governs through the threat of the use of force. We live under a terror regime.

Hospitals are the biggest cost drivers in healthcare. Regulation and litigation are primary responsible. Costs would come way down if providers were able to compete in an environment less burdened by price controls, regulation, and litigation.
You can get very good private care for elective procedures in overseas clinics at only about a third of the cost in the US. Medicare patients should really think hard about this option as rationing becomes the norm.

Since my own line of work (IT) is being sold off to India (and I guarantee you that the pockets of US politicians are being lined with gold over that) I'm contemplating starting a debt collection company named "Mel's Angels". All my collection agents would be required to not bathe. Wear biker garb and ride Harley's. Our motto would be ... "We Never Hurt the Kids".
That biz would be a much better fit for the "New America"!

You want to employ a bunch of SMELLIES
Well known in UK the Smellies stink and worse...,
They are hired to go and collect a debt...sit in the foyer or outer office and stink the place out until they get the they get a call on the cell phone that the debt has been paid,

Kind of amazing how quickly that happened.

Let's see if the electorate has gone to sleep. Boehner might not be speaker for long.
If the repubs gain the senate and grow a pair it could be an interesting two years.

Price fixing is rampant in American health care.
Prices are set by the Blue Cross/Blue Shield system and no one complains...
To: MikeinMotley
The next two years will be interesting no matter what the outcome of the election.
There are so many disasters looming, I don't know where to start. The continuing financial crisis could drive the markets down as much as 50% at any time.

Thanks for posting this and for the ping.
We've built quite a bubble out of everything around US that's finally too big to ignore, even by those who refuse to see.
But instead of releasing the pressure, we/they put bureaucratic scaffolding, band-aids and tire patches all over it as insurance to prop it up and to keep it from popping, which virtually guarantees it will *POP* even more spectacularly than we/they fear.
(Visualize: "The Hindenburg")
Great quote, too! Not much new under the sun.

“Prices are set by the Blue Cross/Blue Shield system and no one complains...”
Prices are set by CMS/Medicare and commercial plans typically pay a percentage over Medicare. Costs are high because of regulation, litigation and the third party payer system that covers non-catastrophic expenses. Patients have paid for an ever shrinking percentage of total health care costs over the last 30 years. It stands to reason that if patients paid for most or all of the non-catastrophic costs, costs would come down.
