In the summer of 1683, 300,000 warriors of the Ottoman Empire began the siege of Vienna. The fall of the city would have opened the way to conquer Europe. On September 11. was the main battle between the Polish cavalry and the Turks.
I highly recommend the movie! More than ever, the world is embroiled in the battle of good and evil; God and the devil; Christianity and Islam. There will be only one winner.
Note that the date of 9/11/1683. Perhaps 9/11/2001 was specifically chosen for its historical significance.
Thanks. I’ll be looking for it.
Some call it the Last Crusade—To celibrate we eat Crosants—based on the moon on Turkish Flags. Time for Europe to step up once again.
One result of that battle was the popularity of coffee in the West.
You could not have written it any better.
The Polish Winged Hussars
Yeah, I watched yesterday too.
Really liked it. I think the lack of PC is due to its Polish influence.
Most of our under-educated, and frankly ignorant public have no inkling that Islam attempted to conquer Europe as late as 1683. The dumb twits thinks the last crusade was in the middle ages. The sons of pig f’n dogs have always been there, looking for the opportunity and I believe are poised to make another large scale try to conquer Europe.
Thanks. Nice picture.
I find the date VERY interesting.
Was just in Vienna last month too.
Before that was in Istanbul. Standing at the old city walls of Constantinople I teared up. Could just imagine that horrible day in 1453...
I doubt that had they taken Vienna in 1683, the Turks could have gone on to conquer Europe. To do so, they would have had to defeat France, which had a powerful army under King Louis XIV. Spain, Denmark, Sweden, the Dutch Republic and England also had potent armies.
But then again, they could have successfully played these countries off against one another, which would not have been hard.

“....God and the devil; Christianity and Islam.”
.
Tsk, tsk, tsk, you are correct but definitely NOT PC!
Gives one a warm and fuzzy feeling.

The single combats of the heroes of history or fable amuse our fancy and engage our affections: the skilful evolutions of war may inform the mind, and improve a necessary, though pernicious, science. But in the uniform and odious pictures of a general assault, all is blood, and horror, and confusion nor shall I strive, at the distance of three centuries, and a thousand miles, to delineate a scene of which there could be no spectators, and of which the actors themselves were incapable of forming any just or adequate idea.
Gibbon, Chapter 68
Of course, Gibbon does describe the progress of the siege and the actions and results of the assault in considerable detail. Still, this remark about the lack of spectators is what stuck in my memory.
I think this is the one I’d read about some time ago and was interested in seeing it when it was released. It sounded good. Thanks for the tip. I’ll look it up.
