[history]
The lunches students bring from home are often filled with unhealthy packaged foods and sugary drinks and little that would win any nutrition awards, according to a new study by university researchers. Missing from those lunches, they said, were fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy, whole grains and, nearly 25 percent of the time, anything that resembled an entree.

School lunches were never a problem if I go back to may grandparents,my father and mother and my self we were educated enough of how and what we wanted to eat But now schools are trying to tell parents what and how to pack lunches for their kids It should be none of the schools business what parents pack for their child lunches

At least the kids will eat something. With the Moochel menu, most of the food goes into the trash.

Well, school lunch prices just keep increasing and taxpayers can not afford to allow their kids to buy school lunches every day even if they wanted to. Ofcourse, the protected classes, their kids eat free or drastically reduced.

Just speculating...Perhaps parents pack food that their kids will actually eat, thereby giving them at least some nutrition, and avoiding wasted food.
School programs, on the other hand, are content with the zero nutrition and wasted food associated with abandoned “healthy” meals.
To: moonshinner_09
School-prepared lunches (part of the federal school lunch program) include a fruit or vegetable, low-fat milk, limited unhealthy fats and whole grains.
... and fill the trash cans with uneaten items.
==
It doesn't matter how supposedly healthy the meals are. If the kids won't eat them, they become slop for hog farms.

“The researchers snapped digital photos of the kids’ lunches”
Think they got the parents’ permission? I hope some kid slapped the camera out of their hands and stepped on it.

“....Lunches from home — most presumably parent-packed — fell far short of the nutrition guidelines required for the lunches served by schools, said the researchers from Tufts University in Boston. In home-packed lunches, they found snacks trumped fruit, for example...”
Curious as to where in the Constitution it’s any of the governments damned business what foods I put in my lunch, or my kids lunch.
We need to throw a whole bunch of nosy, self righteous, busybody, Democrats the ‘H’ out of our government so we can get on with the business of living, and producing for ourselves, and our families without worrying the government will be giving our money away to colleges to write up reports such as this.

Hard to believe I turned out as well as I did on liverwurst sandwiches, pickles and Twinkies in my lunchbox.
*SWOON* To this DAY - crack open a package of Braunschweiger with a side of Gherkins and I will follow you into battle...and we will WIN! :)
The Twinkie? I traded that for ammo and smokes...

Yeah, mom packs celery sticks and the kid does not eat them. So, she packs a gogurt and soon the kid tires of them. So, after racking her brain to figure out what else she can put into the kid's lunch that is healthy, she realizes that if the kid at least eats something nutritious then that is good. So, the kid eats a fruit, a sandwich and a treat.
Moochie wants to hold our kid's noses and force them to eat "cardboard."
Good luck, Moochie.

Low fat dairy?
For an active kid, high fat dairy is preferable.

Why are schools involved in lunch?
Every day I had the same lunch: PBJ on wheat bread with a side of Fritos followed by a chocolate chip cookie. My thermos of milk finished the course.
I just turned 65 and am healthy.

All this low fat nonsense is bad for the brain.
The brain needs fat and its the fastest growing organ at that age.
