Solstice went to the Rainbow Bridge

Posted on 06/28/2014 1:51:20 PM PDT by 1_Rain_Drop

"My name is Solstice and I am 7 days and three hours pain free."

Solstice was a Majestic German Shepherd. He was mellow and just loved every one and every creature except for chickens. They scared the life out of him. I'd try to console him by telling him he ate their unborn chicks. He'd roll his eyes at me. Solstice loved to talk. He was always whining. I never stopped him from doing that because I knew that one day he will stop and I will miss hearing his voice. He loved his planet dog tennis ball. He was always chomping away at it. It made the most irritating sucking sound to a human but must have been music to his ears. Solstice was also very smart. He listened to Mark Levin

Solstice shared the last fve years of his life with me. He was a rescue. Lyme disease then Degenerative Mylopathy tormented him later in life. Despite all that he was always smiling. His last meal was a chocolate cake. He devoured it

I miss him. I miss sharing food with him. I miss his smile. I miss his whining. I miss looking for him camouflaged in some bushes. I miss his facial expressions. I miss giving him hugs. He was such a good boy.

The day I realized he was sniffing near the Rainbow bridge, panicked me. It was too soon.

I hope he was happy with me. I love him so much. He was a very good friend. I hope I did well by him.

I hope he’s romping with our kitties, Duke, Duchess, and Homer, as they wait for us at the Bridge.

I lost one of my furry children this last January. My wife brought her to the house when we got married. The pets ended up treating me better than the wife did. I still have the pets LOL. I know it hurts, but you’ll find your “new normal” eventually. From what I read you did just fine by your pet. Take care and God bless,

CC

My poodle died in my arms when they gave her the injection. Terrible feeling, awful guilt.

This gave me some comfort when I was in the same position.

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don’t let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We’ve had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You’d not want me to suffer so;
The time has come — please let me go.

Take me where my need they’ll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I’ve been saved.

Please do not grieve — it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We’ve been so close, we two, these years;
Don’t let your heart hold back its tears.

Thanks for sharing your grief.

I believe, as many Christian theologians such as C.S. Lewis, that a Believer's beloved animals await them in paradise.

As do I. How can you love, care for and lose a four-footed furry without it being part of your Eternal Family?

Unbelievable to think otherwise.

We are so sorry. Having lost 4 GSDs in the last 2 years, 3 through cancer and 1 stomach bloat, we understand your heartbreak. We will never be without one.

Someone once said that guardian angels sometimes come covered with fur and wagging a tail. I, for one, believe that.

That’s what we do. We always get our dogs from the shelters. When one passes, we wait a couple days and then adopt another one. It’s the best bargain we’ve ever found.

Will Rogers said much the same thing.

Bless you for rescuing Solstice.

Your story reminded me of King, a wonderful German shepherd I had during high school, who had to be euthanized back around Christmas 1973.

I still miss that dog, and sometimes I still dream about him.

I have 5 cats and I love them, wouldn't give them up for anything. But I do miss having a dog.

Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss, but don’t ever feed chocolate to a dog again.

I thank you so much for rescuing Solstice and giving him five years of good life. I can sense your anguish at his loss. He obviously was a quality dog and both of you benefited from being together.

As you know, as time passes the sharp hurt starts to ease and eventually you will be left with pleasant, enduring memories of Solstice.

God bless you and Solstice. May you meet again on The Other Side.
