Frankly, I think your remembrance of the good old days has focused on liberal media folklore, hardship and values in favor of cute monikers like ‘maniac Richard Nixon’ and Tricky Dick Cheney.
My dad was born in 1914, my mom in 1924. He was the son of a share cropper in SC, she the daughter of a carpenter. Both of them saw and lived the ravages of depression and adversity, and they brought real human values with them out of it. Charity, religion, good will. All coupled with devotion to hard work, honesty and principles.
There’s too much of your post that I really disagree with so I’ll leave it at that, but I walk away with the feeling you’re stretching things much too far with too little personal experience.
Think he read a little too much of Howard Zinn’s version of America...
If you’re going to do is post the warts of this country’s past, you’d be better off over at DU.
“...If youre going to do...”
should be “
“If ALL youre going to do...”
And this is to jxb7076; not you Gaffer. We’re on the same page.
Even if your view of the past was all it really was I would take it hands down over today. We didn’t have muslim problems, did not have mexican infiltration at the rate it is today, no queers on every show I watch on tv, not 50% plus of marriages failing, did not have a government hell bent on destroying our rights as free citizens, not graduating kids from college who cannot read/write, did not have crappy music and movies,... the list is infinite.
Yes, I will take the good old days just how they were.
seems to me you’re either looking for an inhumane and thorough smokehouse bashing, or taking advantage of the date.
Yeah, my father was born in 1913, my mother in 1916. She was a high school graduate, he was an eigth grade dropout. They lived through the depression and at the end of their lives were not rich but were far, far wealthier than when they started. How about a return to that, rather than the current day when people spend fortunes to get a university degree and still have an eighth grade education at best and take jobs that my parents would have laughed at and all too often expect their parents or grandparents to support them until they are forty or older?
That one little snippet tells me all I need to know about whomever wrote this garbage. By ANY reasonable assessment, Ronald Reagan was the greatest president in the last century and probably longer.
Corruption? What the h*** is this writer talking about? Ollie North and Iran-contra? No comparison to Solyndra, Fikster and the raids on the public treasure under the present regime. Not even close. Not even in the same ballpark. Yeah, it was an attempt to circumvent congress to keep a Central American country free. The present regime simply ignores congress for any reason.
And Reagan was one of the most brilliant men to ever serve in the Oval Office. Compare what he accomplished to any modern hero this writer might cite.
eigth should be eighth, I fatfingered it.
I applaud your comments, they echo the lives of both my parents and my wifes and they were born and raised on different continents. They went through harsh times but still could bring forth joyous memories. And yes I think I would like to go back to good old days when the world actually shut down for a time each day.
Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.
Many of the situations you reference were sponsored by Democrat politicians (for example, protections of slavery and the institution of Jim Crow laws, the horrible FDR economy and the horrible Obama economy today).
Look at single parent statistics. Look at employment figures for able bodies adults.
Things suck today and the culture is in a downward spiral.
I'd guess this might be an April Fool's thing, but IMO you tend to advertise liberal tendencies in the guise of playing devil's advocate.
And what on earth is "dimed-light"?
Twice as bad as nickled, I believe...
wow - can he get an exemption and be allowed to excerpt? That was truly painful...
