Preppers’ PING!!
It is your choice you can prep or you can stand around on a bridge waiting for FEMA to bring you a bottle of water, a MRE, a warm blanket and a kiss for your boo-boo and maybe you can even get your picture as you stand there on the national news.
Look what happens every Black Friday and thats just Christmas shopping, look what happened recently during the winter storms in the south and the northeast. Look at what is happening in the Ukraine, Venezuela, Syria, Greece, Argentina, Thailand and so on....The world is dry tinder just awaiting the right spark.
So listen to what the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it. NIV Proverbs 22:3
Selco covers this in this article many times people just can not except that a breakdown is occurring even as they watch it happening before their eyes. Why dont they realize it? Its caused by a condition called Normalcy Bias a mental state people enter when facing a disaster.
It causes people to underestimate both the possibility of a disaster occurring and its possible effects. This often results in situations where people fail to adequately prepare for a disaster, and on a larger scale, the failure of governments to include the populace in its disaster preparations. The assumption that is made in the case of the normalcy bias is that since a disaster never has occurred then it never will occur. It also results in the inability of people to cope with a disaster once it occurs. People with a normalcy bias have difficulties reacting to something they have not experienced before. People also tend to interpret warnings in the most optimistic way possible, seizing on any ambiguities to infer a less serious situation.
A good article on Normalcy Bias is on our own ChocChipCookies Blog The Survival Mom:

You either prepare and stand on your own beholden to no one or you become dependent on others to provide your basic needs and become their serf. Me I dont want to be beholden to anyone for providing what is needed for me and mine. I certainly dont want to have to kiss some gubberment third class bureaucratic to try and coax some help from them, I dont want some jack booted thug herding me in line and telling me where to stand, sit, eat or sleep. And last but not least I dont want to be shut up in with a bunch of zombies and have to worry about not only trying to get basic necessities but having to fight to keep what I manage to get.
Just getting started or an old hand you might find my Preparedness Manual helpful. You can download the manual at:
http://tomeaker.com/kart/Preparedness1j.pdf NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!
For those of you who havent started already its time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, cash (I myself have been putting up change for the past few years both for the metal content and the fact that using change places to make what purchases you can will move you down the the list of possible marks during shtf), tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.
As the LDS say When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.
Again I like to recomend FReepers ChocoChipCookie Blog The Survival Mom (Please Blog Police let this one slide!) Where you can get lots of useful information like:

Also there is Ferfals Blog a survivor of Argentinas first collapse:
And there is Selcos Blog a Bosnian War survivor at:
There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger. Underestimation can be fatal.
Get your Amateur Radio license to find out what the international crisis is. When the power and net goes down, you won’t be “in the dark”.
73
The main problem is prescription medications wherein virtually all the ingredients are from potential hotspots in the world, with whom trade is likely to be disrupted.
You don’t need an amateur radio license to ‘listen’.
Not so sure about a 2,000 cal./day goal. Hunting, gathering, woodchopping, travel, staying warm, stress, etc can burn a ton of calories. Better to shoot for 4,000 a day and have extra than not enough. Fat is important, too, so toss a couple of cans of Crisco in the deepfreeze or fruit cellar.
For those with eyes to see, the signs are everywhere. The vast majority of the people who will eventually prep have already started.
If you haven’t, then today would be a good day to start. But if you are reading this then I’m pretty sure you have already begun. This thread is preaching to the choir.
For those few people on this thread who are still on the fence about prepping:
If you wait until it is obvious that the “time to prep has come”, you will find that millions of other people have come to the same conclusion at the same time.
At that point it will be too late.
You are correct, but it has never been easier to acquire a license and with a little ARES or RACES training, you can possibly pass through road blocks and get in or out of restricted areas as a emergency communications vehicle. Working with the local and state officials in training also gives you a great advantage of knowledge. Knowledge of their frequencies, PL tones, contingency plans, access to supplies and fuel, as well as who you want to be “friends” with when the SHTF.
Good point. If you are not stocked up you still have time but at some point it will be too late.
As usual, article is good - comments are better.
It’s no longer a question of “if” the collapse is coming - it’s actually three questions: when”, how fast, and what will it look like?
223?
.223? AKA 5.56?
:)
I am betting that a case of 1/2 pints of Kentucky Deluxe whiskey will be worth more than the equal weight of gold.
A good pistol round lever carbine is a good choice. I prefer 38/357. Rounds can be used in pistol or rife so only one type ammo for both. 44 mag is also a good choice.
Taurus Judge w/ #4 and 000 buckshot (4 pellets).
Hurricane supplies.
Good friends.
Faith.
Sarge, I gave up on needing or wanting to know those answers, as they have no meaning in my preps. I assume the collapse is coming tomorrow, so what do I need to get right now to shore up any section of my preps? So, I will get “x’ or more of “x” and in a few days, I'll think of something else I need to shore up, so I get “x” or more of “x”.
As far as how it will look, I don't care as I'll be locked away in my house, having disappeared from view. That is when “my world” takes over and I'm not in the other foreign world outside. My house and garden is my John Galt world, depending on myself as President For Life of my world, and not needing anything from the foreign world outside.
I will have communication so I can get foreign world news - foreign meaning anything outside my own world.
I have a sense of peace since I don't care when or how it happens because I can't control that. I prepared and that was all I could do.
Yeah but “when” has been predicted since 1998. My wife;s family had to survive winter with the food in the basement from the garden. Welcome to real prepping.
I have some stocked but I have also socked away cases of 1/2 pint bottles of vodka. Cheaper and just as effective for barter.
