“Miller called it fortunate that a military aircraft was doing touch and goes at the Kalaupapa airport around the time of the crash and reported the accident. Coast Guard and Maui County Fire Rescue personnel arrived in about 20 minutes and started the rescue operation, said Miller.”
So the military aircraft Miller refers to was not involved in the rescue other than making the call to report the accident. Which I imagine would have taken place after the airport closed at 3.30.
The helicopters belonged to Coast Guard, Fire Department and air sea rescue.
There were no Navy helicopters, is that right?
