I Look Down On Young Women With Husbands And Kids And I’m Not Sorry
Thought Catalog blog ^ | January 15, 2014 | Amy Glass

Every time I hear someone say that feminism is about validating every choice a woman makes I have to fight back vomit.

Do people really think that a stay at home mom is really on equal footing with a woman who works and takes care of herself? There’s no way those two things are the same. It’s hard for me to believe it’s not just verbally placating these people so they don’t get in trouble with the mommy bloggers.

Having kids and getting married are considered life milestones. We have baby showers and wedding parties as if it’s a huge accomplishment and cause for celebration to be able to get knocked up or find someone to walk down the aisle with. These aren’t accomplishments, they are actually super easy tasks, literally anyone can do them. They are the most common thing, ever, in the history of the world. They are, by definition, average. And here’s the thing, why on earth are we settling for average?

If women can do anything, why are we still content with applauding them for doing nothing?

I want to have a shower for a woman when she backpacks on her own through Asia, gets a promotion, or lands a dream job not when she stays inside the box and does the house and kids thing which is the path of least resistance. The dominate cultural voice will tell you these are things you can do with a husband and kids, but as I’ve written before, that’s a lie. It’s just not reality.

You will never have the time, energy, freedom or mobility to be exceptional if you have a husband and kids.

I hear women talk about how “hard” it is to raise kids and manage a household all the time. I never hear men talk about this. It’s because women secretly like to talk about how hard managing a household is so they don’t have to explain their lack of real accomplishments. Men don’t care to “manage a household.” They aren’t conditioned to think stupid things like that are “important.”

Women will be equal with men when we stop demanding that it be considered equally important to do housework and real work. They are not equal. Doing laundry will never be as important as being a doctor or an engineer or building a business. This word play is holding us back.

Hubby will retire in 5 - and will probably move onto a less stressful job. In six years his junior - and MAN! These kids are expensive!!!

My other problem is ... Figuring out how much more income to bring in without kicking us up to the next tax bracket.

Not that there are a lot of employers out there looking for a middle aged mom with a dusty finance degree and a gaping hole in her employment history.

Hey, Amy... that bitterness is going to show up in your life, somewhere in your 40’s, and you’re going to look like Helen Thomas as a result.

If we go by Amy’s standards - then the Wendy Standard should be what we look up to!

And to think that I’ve been relying on Mother Theresa’s “Do small things with great love!” all this time...pfffft!

This woman has some serious anger issues. I would not be surprised at all to hear of her having been kicked to the curb by a prospective husband... so now, like so many of them, she's taking the militant feminazi track. Sad, really...

I have a long commute. I listened to Ecclesiastes one and a half times through this morning. It speaks to exactly what this woman is saying. To her shame.

She talks about “accomplishment”...

What is that accomplishment going to amount to in 40 years, or on her death bed?

Is she going to want to be surrounded by her “accomplishments” as she is euthanized by some H1-B nurse because her Obamacare allotment has run out?

Who’s going to remember her “accomplishments” in one or two generations?

Futility and bitterness. Satan’s work being done.

But getting married? I’ve seen so many articles and books about how hard it is to find a good man to be a husband.

It's not hard if you do it in your 20's, preferably early 20's.

Some women go though their 20's rejecting good and decent men, preferring to share their beds with exciting "alpha" males who are fine with having sex with them, but have no interest in marrying them. Then they get into their 30's, and discover that the good men have already been taken by women with more foresight.

There are plenty of good American girls around that love the traditional model. Our church is full of them.

At least if there’s a genetic component to this stupidity, it won’t get passed on to the next generation.

My husband died, leaving no life insurance. I took the little bit of retirement he had and invested it in a business and have run it for five years. I work for myself, DON’T work 70 hours a week (more like 10) and have supported myself and finished raising two teens for six years now. I was homeschooling and finished that with them. Getting a job outside the home is not the only option.
