In spite of their advances in education and the workforce anxiety disorders are replacing happiness for American women. Sexual liberation was supposed to bring equality for females that expected fulfillment with the freedom to pursue lust without expecting committed relationships.

It is truly sad.
Society now has allowed women to no longer be in charge of making men live up to a higher moral standard
It's now being sold as "a woman's right to choose." :/
The women who take them up on the offer probably end up on the internet.
There has been a shift in the proportion of males to females in the past forty years. Throughout the history of our country there were many more males than there were females. Men had to compete for the attention of women. Men had to behave, have good manners and treat women well or they would be replaced.
Then the demographics shifted. There were more women than men. Women must ‘treat men well’ or they will be replaced.
Men and women have different ideas about what it means to be treated well.
I’m surprised at that.
I would have expected the deaths of males in WW1 and WW2 would have swung the balance the other way.
I guess I was raised in an era when most women acted with virtue (or were expected to), at least the ones I knew, and was raised and surrounded by women who abided by those Judeo-Christian codes, including my wife of several decades. Naturally, there were always men and women who weren’t interested in living moral lives, they’re everywhere, always have been and the jails are full of them, and prostitution is the second oldest profession in the world. Brainwashed by feminists, huh? I guess it depends what definition of a feminist is; 100 years ago, they wanted the right to vote (no problem with that), however I have been a pro-lifer my entire life, so that makes me an enemy of modern feminists. If feminist you mean that women should be given equal respect for their God-given talents, and recognized as such, in the home or at work, yes. But for sexual freedom, nope, same for men. It leads to tragedy over and over again. Illegitimacy, STD’s, abortion, lies, broken families, etc. As for the ancient Greeks and Romans, I’ve studied both, and yes, they’re societies were considered pagan prior to Christ’s arrival, hence their limited perception of the value of human beings, both genders. I guess I’m an anachronism (Greek word) as to what was normal only fifty plus years ago; but what transpires today as normal is heartbreaking. The old immorality is the new morality, simply put, and what comes from it is only pain, IMHO.
Since all thought processes were created by society and not hard-wired, women, thanks to birth control i.e. the pill, could be taught to be sexually promiscuous just like males. And they would have no guilt or anxieties about it.
Well, as we all know, the tabula rasa theory is a steaming pile of b.s. Male and female thoughts and behaviors, including the sexual area, are hard-wired. Many males naturally crave sex with multiple female partners. The reverse is not true for women. Women naturally pair love with sex. The adage about men giving love to get sex while women give sex to get love is mostly true.
So we have millions of unhappy females getting old with unsatisfied relationships thanks to the feminists. And probably an equal number of males who were sexual predatory when young, but who will be mighty unhappy as their sex appeal wanes in old age.
I would have thought so too. So many men get killed in wars, on motorcycles and in other accidents. It wasn’t until sometime after WWII that the balance shifted.
There was a sociologist at Harvard by the name of Guttentag who wrote a book about it. I think the title was Too Many Women. Oral contraceptives just happened to come along at the time men became the minority and got the upper hand. The opposite is happening in China right now.
Interesting take on the demographic shift. Yes, men and women have different ideas about what it means to be treated well, however I’d like to think self-respect and mutual respect, and yes, honesty, is in the best interest of both parties to make a relationship balanced and workable long-term. Being old school, a person was given respect until they behaved otherwise. It appears there isn’t much respect on anyone’s part these days, nor a sense of self-sacrifice, only “what’s in it for me...me....me.”
Okay so let me get this straight. Some woman named Martha (no last name) and I’m just guessing here but drinks a little too much Wild Turkey and gets on a blog called the Examiner.com. Now this blog is not even in the top 100 conservative websites and I can see why. I could hardly get it to load up.
So Martha (no last name) declares American women to be slutty, worthless, unhappy POS’s who can barely get through life due to the fact that they have the right to come and go and do as they please in life including deciding not to reproduce Heaven forbid. And Martha declares American men are almost as bad.
I’m trying not to laugh here and I dearly love my fellow freepers but having read all the posted comments so far I’m trying to figure out what parallel universe I’ve landed in.
I think its far more likely that Martha (no last name) may well be depressed from leading a less than prudent existence herself and may have allowed herself to become a depressed unhappy and unfulfilled woman. It happens.
To all my fellow freepers let me say that my experience has been that American men are the greatest guys in the world. A few bad apples in every barrel but for the most part good, solid, reliable upstanding, handsome, compassionate and loyal. American women are smart, selfconfident, pretty, well educated, hard working, independent and family oriented. Just like I imagine all the gals and guys on FR are.
If you think the 60’s were the first sexual revolution talk to grandma and Mom about the roaring 20’s and WWII.
At least in the US and other Western countries, where there is little sex-selection at or before birth, the overall ratio of men to women has been remarkably stable. What has changed in the past 40 years is the ratio of men to women among the relatively well-educated. Men and women engage in assortive mating, each attracted to the other within fairly narrow race, income, and education categories. There are more high-earning college-educated women than high-earning, college-educated men among 25-44 year olds now, so competition among women for highly âmarriageableâ men has increased. This is driving many trends we observe, such as late marriages, the increase in never marrieds, and many changes in sexual behavior.
Thank you to everyone who has added comments and information to “Sexual revolution leaving American women plagued by anxiety disorders”.
This is part of a series of articles that I am writing that cover how the sexual revolution has damaged each generation since the 1960s and 1970’s.
I read each comment carefully as your input is important to me as I continue to do research on this subject.
Hey wait a minute. Did you check with humblegunner on this?
YEH!! What she said!!
I want to recall that this has been occurring in Russia(Soviet union) as well. The males are much less motivated (drink and party) while the women are leading in education and income.
What vitamins are those women on? I’ll be 58 next month and am tired all the time. But all things considered, having the sex drive taken down several notches is largely a blessing. Or does this mean when I reach my 60s I’ll start being a hungry lioness instead of a lazy tabby cat?
Yes, the ratio at birth is fairly even but men go to war and have accidents. And a big percentage of them are actively and publicly gay. The percentage of straight college educated men is less than the college educated women.
Then you have the fact that women tend to marry up, e.g., taller, better educated, more affluent, higher status, older and you have a problem for many women. Female college basketball players have a small pool to pick from.
Then there’s the Bell Curve
You are neglecting the sociopath faction that is incapable of feeling any empathy or remorse whatsoever... no shame... no guilt.
I notice that many women that are in that camp.
I would also be more comfortable with it if infowars weren’t cited.
Yes, I know what you’re talking about. I heard this on Hannity one of the few times I listened to him recently. He also had a woman on who supported open marriage. These kinds of debates may be a bit titillating but mostly go around in circles, and don’t really change minds or accomplish anything.
