Florida does not tax groceries (and that is a big one) nor do they tax medicine. Also no state income tax.
My Father had a homestead exemption on a house and 35 acres and paid less than a hundred dollars a year for real estate tax.
I have a free lifetime hunting and fishing license since I am over 65.
The ones which Florida does tax highly are restaurants, and things which tourists usually pay.

Move to GA. You’ll be amazed at how many are from your area. Geography & foliage is remarkably similar, but without the snow. Good business happening around Atlanta. And you can own anything you want.
Austin suburbs tend to be more conservative than Austin proper. And, you’re right about Austin’s job market. We (Texans) can always use more conservatives moving to Austin ;-)
It would be nice to move anywhere at this point, but I would need a reason to, like a job or something, can’t just leave and move to a new state and start from scratch, its hard since everyone I know is here..living in SoCal, the sales tax, property tax, income tax, its just ridiculous that is why so many people are leaving this state
Cool that’s good to know. I have seen that Property Virgins Atlanta edition and the houses they sell there look really nice and reasonably priced. Just don’t expect me to root for the Hawks LOL

Amen. Moved to Atlanta for work several years ago but, thank God, I got back to Texas after about a year or so. Georgia does have state income tax but I never had to do a thing....seems like there was some note in my tax paperwork and I didn’t even know it had happened.
Plenty of worse places to live but I spent every day in Georgia pining away for the day I could get back to Texas. I spent a lot of time driving through Georgia and the South and the thing about the place was that you could never see anything for the damn pine trees. Everywhere. I’m use to driving around and seeing the countryside but you really couldn’t do that in so much of the South. Driving down the road is like driving down a canyon. I remember bringing a few folks from Birmingham to Dallas for training and they kept mentioning how strange the, quote, “direct sunlight” was to them. And how flat it was compared to the country around Birmingham. Alabama is a fine place but just not my country.
Go to Dallas, Sean. Plenty of culture, good fishing in the area. If you want to fish the gulf it is a 2 hour flight. Give it a look.

lol. ....In late ‘70s, my family, sister’s family and our parents all traveled to Mountain Home AR in July or August for a week’s stay at the Scott Valley Dude Ranch. It’s located about 10 miles S of the MO border, right between the Bull Shoals Lake and Norfolk Lake.
One afternoon, four of us found a golf course and did our best to finish the round without passing out from the heat and humidity. I was sweating so much that I had to wrap a small towel around the grip of a club everytime I wanted to hit a shot. It was more brutal than the humidity I’ve experienced in the Houston-Galveston area of TX on my trips down there.
Back in 1800s, my paternal ancestors lived in the Bentonville/Rogers area of NW AR, just below the MO line. I’m sure glad they migrated to Waco TX, as the humidity must have been brutal and there was no a/c.
Another good thing about FL is it is a swing state - it is good to move to a swing state and swing it the right way!

Being a Texan, I will have to agree with you on this. When I want to go to the beach, Florida is where I go.
I can identify with the Scots and the Irish, and my ancestors were here in 1700s as well....however, they stayed in the mountains. I like the Panhandle of Florida.
