I'm glad to see this in the news but....

Why is it that Hollywierdos suddenly turn up with Conservative views in the twilight of their lives when their career is just about over?

I think it goes to the theory that any news is good news for failing movie stars. They will say or do anything to get their name back in the news.

They aren’t really conservative views. He wants “people killing guns” to be held in an NRA Armory. That’s a tiny bit better than a government armory but still a pretty bad idea.

With friends like these...here's his full quote:

“The original mandate of the NRA was to train responsible gun ownership and the NRA should handle it. They should train excellence in gun ownership. They should create the short list of guns that are allowed at home. And every other gun that they say is legal like people-killers and nuclear-tipped semi-automatics should be held in armories owned and controlled by the NRA. Not the government.”

I want a nuclear-tipped semiautomatic!

Thanks KL...they be held in an armory controlled by the NRA....I don't know...why can't private groups like NRA or GOA have armories in my city. Owned and operated by local clubs..say like ham operators have groups formed for local disasters...?

Sounds like he thinks the NRA would make a great Kapo for the gun grabbers.

the original mandate of the NRA was to train responsible gun ownership...

Perhaps Mr. Dreyfuss should consider that the "original mandate" of the 2nd Amendment was for the Government to be balanced by an armed citizenry sufficiently capable of resisting a tyranical govt (if it came to it).

Consolidating arms into a locked armory that the govt can easily seize sort of defeats the entire original mandate of the 2nd Amendment.

I'm going to be overly charitable and presume Mr. Dreyfuss has a few functioning brain-cells and is not being intellectually dishonest on purpose.

but instead of suggesting a ban on them, he suggested they be held in an armory controlled by the NRA, not the government.

Which is just as bad as any ban.

While researching my genealogy I found a letter from one of my distant ancestors (Ethan Allen clan) complaining that the Colonial Governor had ordered that British issued weapons be turned over to an armory for safe keeping. Most of the local frontier farmers were too poor to afford to buy a gun and the weapons issued to them as British reserve troops were their only source of defense at home.

I am shocked to read this from a dyed in the wool pinko.

Just actors, they really know nothing other than fame that they feel gives them super knowledge...but like their employment...it’s all fake.

The totality of his comment indicates he’s still an idiot. I can’t “keep” my weapons if they are capable of killing people, they should be in an armory. It’s easy to extrapolate how he would feel about my carrying one on my person to thwart a mugger.

Sorry, it is not conservative to want to disarm people and force them to store their guns in an NRA armory. Keep and Bear arms means just that. If they are in an NRA armory, then you are not “keeping” your guns, you are just checking them out when desired. You have no access to them when needed.

I like Richard Dreyfuss a lot and am willing to cut him a lot of slack for what he says and does.

This time, he's moved several steps towards me rather me making personal ideological concessions for his views.

Don't fault him here. It's a start.

“short list of allowed guns”, huh?

I became a Firearms Instructor just so I could “give something back”. By teaching ladies, kids, elderly folk, etc. And one of the FIRST things I teach them is “This is your RIGHT to own and carry this - or any other firearm you choose to.”

You want to keep your rights, you have to be willing to do something to defend them, is the way I see it.

No one - not the NRA, not Dreyfuss, not the Fed - has the right to tell you what you can and can’t own. If it came to that, I’d ignore them just as quickly and with the same contempt I ignore the gun-grabbers.

If we’re to call ourselves Free Men, we need to act and behave as such.

Thanks for posting the article, Key.
