Egypt? Are you sure they were not being sent to the Sinai?

DH did a stint there.

if the House of Saud told the obozo they want a pipeline across Syria to the gulf, by george the obozo owes them for putting him in the WH so he must make sure they get their pipeline no matter how many American lives it costs

Sounds like it was taken from a Washington Times article from 3 months ago.

I think Obama and crew feel that time is being wasted and that we need to get the jump on Russian ship movements. The Russians certainly have moved enough top line hardware into the area to let everyone know this one is for keeps. Obama apparently still thinks he can bluff internationally even after his bluffs have been called more times then anyone cares to count now.

For all anyone knows, this is just a normal rotation of the peacekeeping troops we already maintain in the Sinai.

The US Army cannot join the ranks of AQ - at least because it's not set up for that. The US Army is not a ragtag bunch of warring
gang leaders commanders and their "associates." The USA fights wars methodically and scientifically. This means that before the first pair of boots hits the sand there ought to be a supply line, and facilites to live in, and repair shops for equipment, and hospitals for troops, and the necessary command and control sites, and air support... otherwise we may just as well go back a couple thousand years, where every soldier (like Achilles) was all by himself:
Angry at the dishonor of having his plunder and glory taken away (and as he says later, because he loved Briseis),[9] with the urging of his mother Thetis, Achilles refused to fight or lead his troops alongside the other Greek forces. (link)

Pardon me for asking a dumb question, but what country in its right mind would want to build a pipeline "across Syria" when you can bet any one or more of radical, dissident, religiously-fanatical, minority, or unionized camel-herder groups would be blowing it up daily just for the fun of it......now, next year or even way in the distant future?

Are we in store for some “kinetic military operation? Will the soldiers be settling in for an “extended overseas commitment?” Will the soldiers be exposed to “workplace violence”

It’s actually more worrisome that US troops in Jordan for annual joint military exercises seem to have remained there after exercises concluded.

Truthfully, the US has sent the military into Egypt for decades now, every two years since 1980, as part of the Bright Star exercises. The US Army is very familiar and practiced with large parts of Egypt.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Bright_Star
That being said, the Army does not act overnight, and so does need some time to set up a serious base of operations, even if it is just a contingency plan.
Right now, with this Russian chemical weapons deal, things are cooling down somewhat, but that really doesn’t change the contingency game plan.
And truthfully, it will also give the US military a chance to rub elbows with the Egyptian military, exchanging a LOT of very useful information.

We’ve done Operation Bright Star in Egypt since 1992 so that would be the logical staging site now that we are out of Iraq.
So, stick four hundred of our soldiers in the Egyptian desert while the WH idiot dithers with indecision. Lovely.....

I don’t know. While in the Philippines, the buy-me-drinky-girls knew which ships were coming and going before the people assigned to the ships knew!
