Vanity, sorry. My youngest, a FEMALE, whom has always been a FEMALE, with a Birth Certificate, valid SS number, and has been declared on taxes for 18 years as a FEMALE, recieved a threatening letter from Selective Service ordering her under threat of Prosecution, to make a copy of her BIRTH CERTIFICATE and send it in within 10 Days.
My other daughter, did NOT receive this kind of harassment which does NOT happen to Illegal Immigrants even though they are required to register.
Ignore it. I have a friend named Michael that got similar threatening letters from the Selective Service back in 1994. We had a real good laugh about it. She said that wasn’t the only time that had happened.
In my Easter bonnet
With all the frills upon it
I'm sure to be a big hit
At the draft board today
It would not be the first time this was tried. :)
How did she answer selective service question?
Wow! Thanks for the link.
I’m registered. My registration date is the day before I reported to the Army...so it is possible that my bad boy letter was sent out before Selective Service got around to processing my card, just a few days before I left.
I looked up the deadline to register...its 30 days after your 18th birthday. I’m fairly certain I did it the day after my birthday.....but my registration date is 52 days later. They were slow to process my card...but very quick to issue the nastygram.
lol, she is ordered by mom to do nothing.
with all their huge data mining computers, one would think the Govt. could figure it out.
Go to the post office in person. Around here they never answer their phones.
now that i read your post, i do remember that when i called my city post office (200,000+ suburb), it was some post office call center. the post man was mad that i hadn’t picked up the mail in a week so even though my box wasn’t full, the post man took it all away, left a note that i wasn’t getting any more mail and i had to go downtown to pick it up. i tried to call my local p.o. and got somewhereville.
forgot the punch line to my taken mail, the call center p.o. employee said that they were tired of “lazy people” that didn’t pick up their mail every day. (we have community mailboxes, and granted i didn’t go down the street to pick it up) but dang, telling a p.o. customer that they were sick of the lazy people not picking their mail up everyday when the p.o. was going broke, seemed to me to be a “priceless” response.
“...My daughter received a letter from Selective Service of Threat of Prosecution...”

I would ignore it and see what happened next.
But, hey, that’s just me.
I thought it was Skanky!
Just my 2 cents’ worth....don’t do *anything*.Let them indict her, hire a lawyer (who’ll work on a contingency fee basis) and then,at the first court date you and she show up,she with her birth certificate (a passport’s even better) and bingo, she’s got a lawsuit for serious $$$.
I’m going to call them again tomorrow. They are going to give me a reason, then I will suggest some of the other solutions that Freepers suggested.
That is oh so tempting to pay for the college expenses that her scholarship doesn’t cover.
A lawyer might advise against it but,IMO,her 5th Amendment rights allow her to refuse to provide the document that was demanded. Also,if you do take that route she's have to show up at the court shedding a flood of tears. It's called "intentional and negligent infliction of mental anguish".
I don’t want to inflict pain on my kid, but dang it, this letter is stupid and incompetant. I presume besides the “prosecution” if they don’t recieve her BC in ten days, they are threatening any financial aid.
But dang am I NOT going to send her BC when the Selective Service does nothing to Illegal Immigrants who flout the law requiring them to register.
Instead of them proving she is a boy (she is not and for sports had to prove she’s a girl), she is presumed a liar and have to prove her sex.
What dope sent a letter like this? (came from the office of the director, ROMO). I gotta get a look at it though. She needs to take a pic of it, the envelopes and send it to me.
Oh would I love to have them look as stupid as they are, but, I am just the Momma Bear and she is 18 and it scared her saying she would be “prosecuted”.
IMO there's a safe way to handle this and a risky way.I'd wager that a lawyer experienced in such matters would advise the safe way....send the document, despite being white hot with anger due to gov't arrogance and bullying tactics.IMO (for whatever it's worth),her fear also argues in favor of the "safe" route.
I understand that route. Tomorrow I’m going with the phone call, and phone call, and phone call. They may not talk to me, but they gotta talk to the kid. We’ll see if I get an email back from SService and a call back from Senator Flake’s office.
I need a cold one, with ice. lol esp since I just had to clean up doggy diarreah again.
To me, you are wasting your time until you see if the letter is actually real. What does the body of the letter say? How do they go about asking for BC? This should easy to nail down.
Your daughter might need the above-referenced ‘paper trail,’ so keep any emails or letters you get from Sen. Flake and/or the SS. You never know when a note or black mark didn’t get deleted from her record, so it would affect college admissions/loans and/or jobs down the line. Ya just never know how it could come back to her, so best have your documentation. Sinful that U.S. citizens have to watch their backs like this.
