Looking at the pics coming in from the Boston bomber manhunt I see all these LEOs bristling with high-capacity-mag, assault weapon looking rifles (wonder how many are full-auto?), bad-ass shotguns, scary black pistols. For two guys well, one now. (None now. Good show LEOs.)
Thing is, I dont begrudge the city of Boston a single round. The LEOs, God bless em, arent taking any chances. But then why should you? Why should you be held to 7 rounds? Or 10. Or any arbitrary number.
Who needs 30-round mags?
legions of heavily armed police felt like they needed them for two guys. Then one one guy.
If precaution advises that many trained officers with all that firepower to prepare to take out two baddies because who knows how heavily armed they are or what they might do how can we expect a lone homeowner to defend herself against similar unknown threats with seven rounds? Mayor Bloomberg, Governor OMalley, et al., please, your thoughts?
TTAGers, heres hoping you never need even one and always have access to a whole lot more.
Unarmed Bostonians cowering in their homes waiting for the government to protect them.
The M1carbine is a nice little weapon and a nice size for home protection. When I was in Nam it and the M2 was popular with Arvn and Montagnard troops due to size and weight. Later, they transitioned to the M-16 as it became more available. I don’t have an M1carbine although I would like to own one; maybe a Rock Island or a Singer would be nice, lol :) I do have a Ruger 71/2” Blackhawks with scope that I use sometimes for pig hunting though. I recall shooting once shooting a javelina with it at about 20’ right between the eyes. The shot knocked the pig down and after a few seconds that pig jumped up and ran off into the brush - much to my surprise! Point being, irf you have it for home defense and should have to use it someday, be sure to put several rounds into the perp and if hr goes down, stay alert and on your guard, don’t assume that you finished him off because he might just get up after a few minutes....
I have a Rockola you might be able to ‘acquire’ for a couple of grand ...
Speaking if 30 round magazines - most of the 30-06s I have seen recently have a hinged 4-5 round capacity mag. which brands tend toward detachable mags? And yes I admit to being lazy today - my computer died last night so I’m limited to a phone and still in mourning.
What are they pointing at? According to my training your never to point your weapon at anything you don’t want to shoot. Finger on the trigger? Check. What part did I miss where the terrorists’ were hiding in an office building, on a roof, somewhere high. They are aiming at least 30 feet in the air. Maybe they were skeet shooting?
Awful lot of 30 rd p-mags. Can’t let the sheeple have any of those. They might put an eye out. Notice also the optics. EOtech. Only the best for our boys in blue. Whoops on that vertical foregrip..According to Di-Fi thats a no no. Collapsible stock? Oh hell no! Can’t have one of those.
And on and on.After all, it’s for the chil’ren
I couldn’t figure out why they were pointing up in the air either.

Hmm, been watching Pawn Stars, mind if I call a friend :) ?
I was wondering the same thing. Some Bostonian is lucky they didn't make a false move.
Mine is an Israeli Arms manufacture. Shoots beautiful. Dead on at 100yds. Can’t shoot it anymore because of 30cal. shortage of ammo. When I’m home I shoot a .22cal pellet rifle. Keeps me in practice and the pellets are easy to find.
” When Im home I shoot a .22cal pellet rifle. Keeps me in practice and the pellets are easy to find.”
An excellent idea for sure. The ammo situation “appears” to be slightly improving to me. Now, instead of absolutely no ammo available in the most popular calibers, one can buy a box or two if at the store early on delivery dates. I think the defeat of the latest gun control bill will help with reducing speculative buying, hope so anyway.
