I know of no other way to put this. The Obama administration is taking their attacks to a new low and their attempts to control the media to a new level. Bob Woodward is no stranger to anyone who follows politics and is familiar with the media. He is the man who broke the Watergate story and his has been around the block at least once or twice. Not only that, but he is well-respected, usually by his fans and his critics. His reputation is above reproach, but that may be about to change.
If we were looking for one word or phrase to describe Bob Woodward, it would be candid or truthful. That truthfulness is putting him into some very hot water with the Obama administration. If you will recall, Woodward is the reporter who was told by John Boehner that Obama plainly said we didn't have a spending problem. Bob Woodward is also the reporter who let the sequester cat out of the bag. It is his account that has let the public know where the sequester came from, that it was Obama's idea in the first place. It is that story that is getting him into trouble with the White House.
According to Bob Woodward, one exchange he had with a senior White House official was more than a little heated, followed by an email that makes me wonder just how far the Obama administration is willing to go. Hat tip to Bunkerville.
(Politico) The Obama aide yelled at me for about a half hour, Woodward told us in an hour-long interview yesterday around the Georgetown dining room table where so many generations of Washingtons powerful have spilled their secrets. That exchange is bad enough, but now the White House is embarking on a campaign to smear Bob Woodward. Twitter is hopping with references to Woodward, with some claiming he is washed up and finished, in so many words.Digging into one of his famous folders, Woodward said the tirade was followed by a page-long email from the aide, one of the four or five administration officials most closely involved in the fiscal negotiations with the Hill. I apologize for raising my voice in our conversation today, the official typed. Youre focusing on a few specific trees that give a very wrong impression of the forest. But perhaps we will just not see eye to eye here. I think you will regret staking out that claim.
e Fix@TheFixSo, how far is this administration willing to go to protect themselves? Far enough to suggest Bob Woodward is senile.WOW. MT @davidplouffe Watching Woodward is like imagining Mike Schmidt facing live pitching again. Perfection gained once rarely repeated.
For years, Bob Woodward has been a fixture in the medial. Conservatives haven't always been fond of him and the stories he reported, but he has always been respected. The left has usually defended him and called him an icon of the media. But one or two stories that goes against the narrative the Obama administration wants to push and all of a sudden, he is senile. Truly, it is disgusting to see how the liberals are attacking someone who they thought was in the bag.
It has begun.
Hold on, it is going to get rough, but, soooooooooooooooo enjoyable!
IOW’s, Woodward, you were a star when you went after Republicans, but you’ve now outlived your usefulness.
Who is Valerie Jarrett??? HAHA
When one wanders off the liberal plantation, the masters hunt him down and destroy him.
What will the LSM do with this? Fun to watch indeed.
Perhaps the effort of the White House to discredit Woodward might trigger a revolt agains’t themselves by the media. One can only hope.
It will be educational watching the different approaches by the libs in their handling of Dan Rather and Woodward. Rather, after being proven beyond doubt to have ginned up an anti Bush piece is lauded by the left, Woodward will be driven into obscurity after being tarred with the senile brush.
While this embroglio will last a day or so, it will end by the simple tactic of giving Woodward no audience, no exposure, and no coverage. Woodward who?
And if Obama requested, they would loudly ask for seconds.
Well, not entirely.
"...one word or phrase to describe Bob Woodward, it would be candid or truthful."
Woodward and Bernstein seem to have quenched their thirst for candor and truth by exposing Nixon.
It didn't compel them to root out the truth in subsequent Presidential scandals.
If you feel entitled to suppress free speech you are not truly an American and you should not be anywhere near the seats of government power in this country (or any country for that matter).
I think this will backfire on othug
On GMA this morning, 8 minutes devoted to the pope.
2 minutes devoted to Woodward, with the lead out of the piece was that the White House says Mr. Woodward was wrong. (No check, just acceptance.)
This is what happens when you outlive your usefulness to The Party.
As vicious as Progressives can be toward conservatives, they seem to reserve their worst bile for apostates on their own side, even those who fall ever so briefly out of line. In this respect, and not a few others, the Left shares a common tendency with adherents of radical Islam.
The MSM had managed to out Pravda the old Pravda. At least with the old Pravda the Soviet Union actually had to pay them to write stories for the state. The MSM does the State's bidding for free. Sort of like free hookers.
