While the title says it all, I thought a goodbye was in order.
While I've been a FReeper for well over a decade, I must declare that it is time to part ways. While I have the greatest respect for a great many of you, the days where I can in good conscience remain silent about the issues that set me apart from the rest of FReeperdom have past. For clarity, or perhaps catharsis, I'm not entirely certain which, I'll lay them out on the table an call the ZOT down upon myself.
The racism: I just can't handle it anymore. FR has become increasingly racist since President Obama took office, and enforcement has dropped. Now, not a single crime can be reported with an "amish" comment, and I've yet to see a post express embarrassment or shame when lo and behold sometimes the perpetrators turned out to be lily white.
Homosexuality: FR is on the wrong side of history on this one, and I'll just leave it at that.
Mostly though, it's the hate. More and more posts reference violent solutions to political disagreements. Some subtly couched, others make no pretense. I wouldn't be surprised at all if I read in the morning paper that a FReeper murdered a federal bureaucrat or a federal judge.
I've learned so much, from so many of you, and for that I'm grateful. I genuinely and truly wish all of you well, and sincerely hope you all live out the rest of your lives in happiness.
Melas
“Do you understand the the kinder, gentler approach of the first Bush is the type of reaction we allowed ourselves for three decades and that THIS is where it has gotten us?”
The problem with Bush wasn’t kindness or gentleness, it was bad policy. It was endless war, endless spending, endless expansion of the welfare state.
Kindness and gentleness has nothing to do with it. Bush wasn’t capitulating, all of that bad policy was WHO HE WAS.
“How did Mr. Nice Guy do in the last election against the one who openly declared a war on the white man?”
Again, McCain’s problem was never being nice, it was advocating bad policy. Nice had nothing to do with it.
And please refresh my memory of when Obama openly declared war on the white man? Waiting...............
Well, most of the Amish I have met are lilly white.
Just an observation: That will depend entirely upon who writes the history.
Right now it is being crafted by PhDs in History Departments at Universities...'nuff said.
Calling Freepers racist, homophobe, haters? SERIOUSLY? That's your opus?
Well, I'm not buying it, Melas.
Freepers love red blooded Americans no matter what color they are. We love Allen. We cheered for Herman. We got our hearts broken by Colin and even Condi. We have great hopes for Mia and Nikki and a whole new generation of colorful conservatives.
I'm sorry you feel too many posts mention race, but that's not OUR fault. That's our current political reality, my friend. You can close your eyes if you want to.
You also said we are on the wrong side of the homosexual agenda? News flash! People do not care what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedrooms. But gays don't keep it in their bedrooms do they? NO! They push it on our children. They wear dog collars and ass-less chaps in parades on the street. They want schools to require reading of books titled, "My two daddies love me." They ruin family parks, visitor centers, and rest stops with dangerous and disgusting random sex.
But I'm a bad person to say, Whoaaa, I don't want this lifestyle promoted in my home!
Anyway, I reject your opus. And when you stop believing all that MSNBC BS and you toughen up a little, you know where we are.
As a side note, why doesn't anyone ever include funny pictures or scandalous gossip in their opus? Really, put some effort into it! Mine would be totally epic.
There is no racism - people are upset with behaviour and double standards, not skin color. We are asked by the media to treat the perpetrators of black crime as big dumb kids who don't know any better. People have had enough of that.
Homosexuality: FR is on the wrong side of history on this one, and I'll just leave it at that.
When people talk about others being on the wrong side of history, they usually mean the popular side of history. Most of us, like myself, work with homos, encounter them in social groups, etc... and have no ill will towards them. Yet if you want me to pretend that a man who wants to have sexual relations with another man is just as normal as the biological drive to reproduce, then I will have to say you have been brainwashed by political corrected.
“Homosexuality: FR is on the wrong side of history on this one”
So says you moron.
Tell me, you for NAMBLA?
They agree with you on this one, embrace you even.
And your kids.
Heck. a good portion of the homosexual culture will embrace your kids too.
Go ahead, take them to the Folsom Street Fair, I dare you!
From your bio page:
“My first allegiance is to the truth, not ideology or politics.”
So we can firmly state that you are a liar.
Because by throwing away conservativism for homosexual apologia, you are indeed showing allegiance to ideology.
You are one of the best. I agree with your sentiments. FR’s decline has been precipitous and no one appears likely to stop it.
I’m not far behind.
So a man as brilliant, perceptive and flawless as youself is what...a thousandaire?
Are you saying Free Republic is full of racists? Are you saying this site is on the wrong side of the homosexuality debate?
FW: “So a man as brilliant, perceptive and flawless as youself is what...a thousandaire?”
Hundredaire?
It is my own theory that a biomolecular phenomenon has taken place across this country under your very nose. That is that melanin has spontaneously joined with Teflon to form a compound that may cause people like you to conflate ANY criticism of a person darker than oneself as "racism."
The fear of being labelled a "racist" has caused many a perhaps otherwise sensible person to actually vote for Obama, a vote against him being considered possible criticism and therefore "racist." Team Obama has seized upon this "logic" with maximum cynicism to use the leader's melanin content as a shield to prevent criticism of the administration's ruinous policies, and failings. Now that; that is "racist."
Does real racism exist? Would one be able to find racists who object to Obama, or me, or you, on the basis of our skin color alone? Yes and Yes. Does alcoholism exist? Are there religious bigots? Do you not have any obnoxious neighbors? Think it through, Melas. Many "racists" disliked Jackie Robinson when he came up to the majors merely because he was black. But, when they saw him play baseball they, however grudgingly, acknowledged him. They were still racists. Although Robinson undoubtedly helped many get over it. What Obama is is a "Jackie Robinson" who can't play ball. He's on the field BECAUSE of his color. He is screwing up the whole team.
You cannot blame Obama's wrecking of the Republic on the "racists," nor can you or Team Obama call anyone who can see the disaster and says so, a "racist."
I find far more racism and hate spewed from the news readers at any of the nightly network news.
No wonder Texas is turning purple.
Similar to how people who came to this country LEGALLY should be outraged by amnesty.
You’re all for the homosexual agenda as well?
You chose to ignore reality, by name-calling, too?
Take a walk around Castro Street in SF, or Deetroit at night....tell us that this should be "tolerated" without disgust, then go on your merry way, ignoring decadence and moral disregard.....
It's precisely because the Amish have those positive qualities that the reference is made. It's called sarcasm. How anybody could interpret that as sullying them is beyond me.
