Ahead of December 21, which marks the conclusion of the 5,125-year "Long Count" Mayan calendar, panic buying of candles and essentials has been reported in China and Russia, along with an explosion in sales of survival shelters in America. In France believers were preparing to converge on a mountain where they believe aliens will rescue them.
The precise manner of Armageddon remains vague, ranging from a catastrophic celestial collision between Earth and the mythical planet Nibiru, also known as Planet X, a disastrous crash with a comet, or the annihilation of civilisation by a giant solar storm.
In America Ron Hubbard, a manufacturer of hi-tech underground survival shelters, has seen his business explode.
"We've gone from one a month to one a day," he said. "I don't have an opinion on the Mayan calendar but, when astrophysicists come to me, buy my shelters and tell me to be prepared for solar flares, radiation, EMPs (electromagnetic pulses) ... I'm going underground on the 19th and coming out on the 23rd. It's just in case anybody's right."(continued)

We are not all smug and sanctimonious. :)
I reserve the right to contemplate that the Mayans may have been TOLD (by time travelers) when civilization would end, so they built their calendar accordingly. Consider, why would they go all the way out to 2012? There was purpose in them doing that, no?
LOL!
Why pay any mind to anything coming from an extinct culture?
Did the Mayans predict Cortez? The wheel? The horse?
I’m a lot more worried about Obama ending our way of life as we know it.
;]
...and I feel fine.
When the 21st comes around, I will be watching the Hobbit. ‘nuff said.
Hey - that’s not nice to make fun of Alpaca’s lisps.
LOL
;^D
There were once four men who, with their families, ran an alpaca ranch.
One day, the alpaca ate some fermented berries, and broke free of their corral. They ran into the nearby town and, in their drunkenness, started kissing people.
The men, panicked, ran into town and shouted for people to stay inside until they could round up the alpaca. They shouted so long that they lost their voices, but eventually they were able to round up the animals and nobody was hurt.
From thence forth they were known in town as the “Four hoarse men of the alpaca lips.”
And how again are candles going to be useful when our planet has a head-on with another and we’re not wearing seatbelts?
...and another round of martinis. :-)
The Mayans had a circular concept of time—they had several of these “last days”—all it means is that change will come that will change everything. Last time this hit was in the 16th Century when Cortez landed in Mexico (that changed a great many things—some good —No more hearts being cut out, and Christian Church—and some bad—slavery and serfdom.) So a change is coming! It might be both good and bad as well. A new invention, contact with space people, a plague, a new world government? World War Three? —It could be many things. BUT it will not be the end of all life on earth.
We have no need for sanctimony because the job of conviction is not ours.
If everybody is wearing a white shirt and you're wearing red ... yeah ... I guess you wouldn't want to hang with that crowd ...
unless you change your shirt.
Panic? really?
